  • Align device-page styling with Desktop using self-hosted DM Sans, shared visual tokens, an ASCII background, and standalone mouse artwork beside the settings workspace
  • Add local game/app management through Bridge with manual executable-path entry, stable IDs, explicit running/focused activation, and macOS bundle metadata
  • Preserve each target/device’s saved settings when switching profiles
  • Serialize profile saves, toggles and clearing; protect against stale responses and provide explicit retry after failed saves
  • Bind drafts and automatic apply/restore operations to the correct device session, retaining recovery baselines after partial writes
  • Harden request-body limits, API-route checks and feedback payloads, including disabling Discord mentions

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Add and manage local games and apps, then create device profiles that activate when an app is running or in focus. Profile settings are restored when the profile is no longer active.
    • Enjoy a refreshed device workspace and a decorative ASCII background with reduced-motion support.
    • Local game and app management is now available in 13 languages.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Improve profile save reliability when switching devices or targets.
    • Feedback submissions now validate content and attachments, with clearer errors for invalid or oversized requests.
  • Documentation
    • Document local app profiles, Bridge behavior, and updated bundle-size limits.

Note

Add local game and app management UI and redesign app shell with DM Sans

  • Adds a full local games/applications workflow: the Games page lists, creates, edits, and removes user-configured local targets via a new LocalApplicationDialog.tsx, persisted through the Bridge local-applications endpoint.
  • Reworks GameProfilePanel.tsx and GamesPage.tsx to use shared game identity matching, per-target cached profile state, serialized and read-back verified profile writes, and debounced-save cancellation on target changes.
  • Hardens the feedback API: feedback.js now validates origin, webhook URL, content type, payload structure, size limits, and attachments, returning 400/403/413/415/502 for rejected requests.
  • Redesigns the visual shell: device pages move from a hero layout to a rail-and-workspace layout in DeviceHero.tsx and device.css, with new opaque panels, a decorative ASCII field (AsciiField.tsx), self-hosted DM Sans variable font replacing the Google Fonts link, and a validated visual contract in visual-contract.json.
  • Adds localized strings for the local games/applications UI across all locale catalogs, plus extensive VM-harness test suites for the dialog, profile panel, target parsing, bridge calls, and visual contract.
  • Risk: profile writes now replace only the selected game's profile for the selected device via replaceGameProfile (previously all profiles for the game were filtered), and GameProfilePanel.matchesGame was replaced by the shared identity-aware matcher in local-applications.ts — any out-of-tree consumers of name-only matching will behave differently.

The new local games and owner-scoped profile flow can save one mouse's settings onto another mouse, can let two identical mice overwrite each other's game profiles, and can leave game settings applied after a game closes. The feedback middleware also weakens abuse escalation for oversized uploads. These should be fixed or explicitly accepted before merging.

parseLocalTarget rejects legitimate application paths whose final component contains -, so names such as Visual Studio Code - Insiders.app cannot be saved. The /\s[-/]/ check runs against the executable basename even after quotes are stripped; remove that heuristic or validate arguments separately so punctuation in the target name is accepted.

When restoration returns partial, appliedSignature.current remains set, so reactivating the same game makes line 99 skip its profile and leaves the mouse partially restored. Clear the signature on partial while retaining priorSettings.current so restoration can be retried.

The bridge dialog is painted beneath .om-main, so its controls—including the download/update link—are blocked. .om-sidebar and .om-main create stacking contexts at z-index: 1, and the later .om-main paints above the sidebar; the dialog’s z-index: 60 cannot escape its parent context. Raise the sidebar above the main context or render the dialog in a portal.

Approvability

Verdict: Needs Human Approval

Macroscope's review found this PR requires human approval — This PR is a broad feature and runtime behavior change: it adds local game/app profiles, automatic device-setting application, Bridge integration, and server-side security changes. Unresolved findings also identify blocked Bridge dialog controls, rejected valid application paths, and incomplete restoration retry behavior.

functions/api/feedback.js:22
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | 💤 Low value

Raise the multipart body limit so four 2 MiB attachments fit.

The multipart limit equals the combined size of four maximum-size attachments. It leaves no room for the multipart envelope or payload_json. A request with four files of exactly 2 MiB each returns 413 before any per-file check runs. Two places enforce the limit: the global middleware at functions/_middleware.js:185-189 (8 MiB for every route except /api/comments), and the feedback handler at functions/api/feedback.js:22. The middleware check runs first, so it returns the 413. Raising only the handler limit has no effect. Change both limits together, and raise the /api/feedback limit above 8 MiB plus the envelope and the 64 KiB payload_json cap. No in-repo client sends multipart attachments today, so this is a latent contract mismatch.

Minor · Give each Bridge device its own profile identity before saving. · GameProfilePanel.tsx:219

src/features/games/GameProfilePanel.tsx:219
🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚖️ Poor tradeoff

Give each Bridge device its own profile identity before saving.

deviceId() builds the profile ID from the brand and display name only. Two Bridge-connected mice of the same model with the same name get the same ID. The save path then replaces the other mouse's profile.

The reachable path:

  • sidebarEntries keeps Bridge devices separate by their session key, which includes the serial number. Both mice therefore appear as separate panel entries.
  • GameProfilePanel.tsx gives both entries the ID ${brand}:${name}.
  • Saving one mouse calls replaceGameProfile(profiles, game, deviceId(device), profile). That call removes every profile where matchesGame is true and device.id equals the shared ID. It then writes the new profile. The other mouse's profile for the same game is removed.
  • The active-target and per-target state in the same hunk also compare by this ID. The panel cannot tell the two mice apart.

Serial-less WebHID mice of one model collapse into one card, so this path needs Bridge devices that report serial numbers.

Fixing this needs the Bridge device key or serial number on SidebarDevice and in the profile ID. Existing stored profile IDs would also need a migration. No safe localized edit was established, so none is proposed here.

Update SidebarDevice and deviceId so Bridge devices include their session key or
serial number in the profile identity, and use that identity consistently for
saving and per-target state in GameProfilePanel. Add a migration for existing
stored profile IDs so previously saved profiles remain associated with their
devices.
Minor · Add a retry path for a failed profile load. · GameProfilePanel.tsx:165

src/features/games/GameProfilePanel.tsx:165
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Add a retry path for a failed profile load.

If the initial bridgeProfiles request fails while Bridge's HID socket stays open, the panel stays mounted with loaded set to false. The load effect runs only when gameIdentity(game) changes, so nothing re-runs it. The profile controls stay disabled, and the settings cards never appear. The user must close the panel and reopen it. The new loadError state only changes the status text. Add a retry action that re-runs the load effect, and show it when loadError is true.

Add a retry action in GameProfilePanel that is shown when loadError is true and

close and reopen. Ensure the retry also clears or updates the error state as the
request runs, while preserving the existing load flow keyed by

Add a test for the 760px rail container query.

The visual-contract suite checks the --rail-w-medium token value. It does not check the @container om-device (min-width: 760px) rule in device.css that applies that token to the device grid. If that rule is removed or changed, the suite still passes and the medium-width rail stops working without a test failure.

Add a variability assertion to the session-seed test.

The test the seed is chosen once per page session in src/shared/ascii.test.ts:48-52 checks only two things. The second call to asciiSessionSeed() must deep-equal the first, and both components must be finite. A constant seed such as [0, 0] passes both checks. A regression to a fixed seed would not fail the suite.

The current implementation is correct. It draws the seed once with crypto.getRandomValues and caches it, so this is a coverage gap rather than a live defect. The seed feeds the glow field through src/shared/AsciiField.tsx, so a fixed seed would make every session show the same field.

Consider a test that calls asciiSessionSeed() in a fresh module instance, or one that verifies the seed is drawn from crypto.getRandomValues, and checks that the result is not a constant. Mocking globalThis.crypto.getRandomValues lets the test fix its output and confirm that asciiSessionSeed() returns the value it produced.

Add a test for the AsciiField resize path.

The new test in src/shared/ascii.test.ts calls nextAsciiField directly. It does not render AsciiField, so nothing checks that the component's resize listener calls setField or that the rendered data-cols changes. If the listener wiring were removed or changed, the current tests would still pass while an open page kept the old column count.

The tests cover the pure logic only. No test in src mentions resize or data-cols. The test script runs node --test over *.test.ts files, so adding a component-level check would also need a DOM test setup.

Add embed-level test cases for unsupported properties.

The test at test/feedback-security.test.ts:24 compares the sent embeds with payload.embeds. Add a same-name owner-switch test with a saved profile that differs from the first owner's.

The draft-ownership test uses an empty saved profile. Its mock returns [] from bridgeProfiles, so the second owner's opened snapshot is {} whether it reads its own saved state or the previous owner's. A leak of the previous owner's saved DPI would not fail this test.

Other tests in the PR cover this for devices with different names. None cover it for a same-name switch with different saved values. Add that case to src/features/games/profile-draft-ownership.test.ts. Give the first owner a saved DPI, switch to a second owner with the same name, and assert that the second owner's draft and saved state match its own profile.

Review comments at @functions/_lib/feedback-payload.js:
- Line 2: Update text() to support a minimum length and apply a minimum of one
character to embed field names and values during validation, rejecting empty
fields before the webhook call while preserving existing length limits and other
text validation.
- Line 39: Validate the embed timestamp’s ISO 8601 format in the timestamp check
before calling Date.parse, while retaining the existing parse-validity check and
“Invalid timestamp” error. Locate this logic in the embed timestamp handling
that assigns result.timestamp.

Review comments at @functions/_middleware.js:
- Around line 186-189: Update the boundedRequest error handling to call
strike(kv, ip) for BodyTooLarge only when the original POST declares a
Content-Length above MAX_BODY_BYTES and SECURITY_KV is bound. Preserve the
existing behavior for streamed oversized bodies and avoid replacing an existing
ban reason.
- Line 187: In handle(), move the boundedRequest body read after the ban,
static-subresource, exploit, Origin, Content-Length, and rate-limit checks,
which can run on the original request. Call boundedRequest immediately before
each forward() path so downstream handlers still receive the buffered body, and
preserve the existing BodyTooLarge and Invalid body responses for read failures.

Review comments at @README.md:
- Around line 79-81: Update the README description of “Add game or app” to state
that users enter a full executable path; remove the unsupported running-app
picker and executable-name options. Correct or remove the following claim that
filename-only entries match executables, so the documentation consistently
reflects the full-path-only add flow.
- Around line 41-43: Update the production asset budget description in the
README to document that the checker adds an 18,000-byte JavaScript allowance
when a preview-fixtures-* asset is present. Keep the existing base JavaScript
limit, CSS limit, and local game/app allowance accurate.

Review comments at @src/features/bridge/profile-ownership.test.ts:
- Around line 83-90: Update the profile ownership hook to re-evaluate the latest
Bridge state after an in-flight profile write settles, replaying any state
change received while the write was pending. Extend the retryability test near
the `failed` and `partial` cases to cover `notify(false)` during an unresolved
write, then verify resolving it as `written` triggers a second
`flashGameProfileSnapshot` call restoring DPI to 800.

Review comments at @src/features/devices/DeviceHero.tsx:
- Around line 69-73: Update DeviceHero to render status.connectionDetail as
visible text in the device status line when present, using displayText(locale,
status.connectionDetail). Keep the existing connection-type display and title
behavior unchanged.
- Around line 88-120: Update the device header in DeviceHero to show the
OpenMouse Bridge transport label when the active device uses Bridge, while
preserving the existing connection and device facts.

Review comments at @src/features/games/GameProfilePanel.tsx:
- Around line 98-110: Update the owner-change handling around lastDraftOwner so
that when the target device identity changes without a user selection, it
reloads savedRef, savedKey, and autoApply for that target using the same source
as selectTarget before the draft effect opens. Preserve the existing behavior
when the device identity stays the same.

Review comments at @src/features/games/GamesPage.tsx:
- Around line 144-159: Restore the request-a-game control in GamesPage and wire
it to the request dialog so users can open the request flow; preserve the
existing preset and local application dialog behavior.

Review comments at @src/features/games/LocalApplicationDialog.tsx:
- Around line 25-26: Update the `valid` expression in the dialog so drive-letter
paths require `parsed.executable` to end in `.exe`, while preserving the
existing validation for other targets. Use the existing `localApps.invalid`
message for rejected targets; do not change Bridge matching behavior.

Review comments at @src/i18n/index.ts:
- Line 101: Update the games.settingsHint translation key across locales to
clarify that full device settings are restored only while the control panel
remains open, while preserving the existing profile-specific behavior. Update
any exact-match assertion for this hint to reflect the clarified wording.

Review comments at @src/shared/ascii.test.ts:
- Around line 81-87: Update the test “OS reduced motion can override the sweep
without a component rerender” to verify the reduced-motion rule in `shell.css`:
assert that `@media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce)` appears after the sweep
animation rule and that it sets `.om-ascii-row` to `animation: none`. Keep the
existing selector-specificity assertion.

Review comments at @src/styles/device.css:
- Around line 123-126: Update the `.om-setup-figures` container query so setup
figures do not overflow at 760–900px container widths: either raise the
two-column breakpoint to cover that band or keep four columns while allowing
figure values to wrap or shrink within their columns. Preserve the existing
layout behavior at wider widths, and verify the result at 760px, 900px, and
1000px.

Review comments at @src/styles/visual-contract.test.ts:
- Around line 103-104: Update the test “DM Sans is self-hosted with its licence
and pinned to the native instance” to verify the font bytes against the
manifest’s SHA-256, not only their length. Read the `DMSans-Variable.ttf` entry
from `DM-Sans-source.json`, compute the font buffer’s SHA-256, and assert it
matches the entry’s `sha256` value.

Minor comments:
Review comments at @functions/api/feedback.js:
- Line 22: Update the multipart body limits in the global middleware and the
feedback handler’s boundedRequest call together; set both above 8 MiB plus the
multipart envelope and the 64 KiB payload_json cap so four maximum-size
attachments fit.

Review comments at @src/features/games/GameProfilePanel.tsx:
- Line 219: Update SidebarDevice and deviceId so Bridge devices include their
session key or serial number in the profile identity, and use that identity
consistently for saving and per-target state in GameProfilePanel. Add a
migration for existing stored profile IDs so previously saved profiles remain
associated with their devices.
- Line 165: Add a retry action in GameProfilePanel that is shown when loadError
is true and triggers the profile-loading effect to rerun without requiring the
panel to close and reopen. Ensure the retry also clears or updates the error
state as the request runs, while preserving the existing load flow keyed by
gameIdentity(game).

Nitpick comments:
Review comments at @src/features/games/profile-draft-ownership.test.ts:
- Around line 58-66: Update the draft-ownership test around panelHarness to
cover switching between two owners with the same name but different saved
profiles: give the first owner a saved DPI, then switch to a same-name second
owner with a different saved DPI. Assert that the second owner’s draft and
opened snapshot reflect its own saved profile, not the first owner’s state.

Review comments at @src/shared/ascii.test.ts:
- Around line 48-52: Update the “the seed is chosen once per page session” test
around `asciiSessionSeed` to verify it uses `crypto.getRandomValues` rather than
accepting any finite constant seed. Mock the random source with a known
non-constant result and assert that the fresh session seed matches it, while
preserving the existing caching assertion.
- Around line 54-64: Add a component-level resize test for AsciiField that
verifies its resize listener updates state through setField and the rendered
data-cols value changes; use or add the DOM test setup needed to run it with the
existing node:test suite.

Review comments at @src/styles/visual-contract.test.ts:
- Around line 28-43: Add a test in the visual-contract suite that reads
device.css and verifies the @container om-device rule at 760px applies
--rail-w-medium to the .om-device-layout grid; keep the assertion focused on
this rule so removing or changing it causes the test to fail.

Review comments at @test/feedback-security.test.ts:
- Line 24: Update the test around the `body.embeds` assertion to include
unsupported `author`, `url`, and `image` properties in the input embed, then
assert that the sent embed contains only the supported properties. Keep the
existing sanitizer behavior unchanged.

Reject empty embed-field names and values before the webhook call.

text() in functions/_lib/feedback-payload.js checks only the type and maximum length. An empty string passes. The field name and value checks call text() with a maximum and no minimum, so { name: "", value: "details" } passes validation. The payload.embeds?.length check only confirms that an embed exists. The request is then sent to Discord. Discord rejects the empty required field with a 400 response, and functions/api/feedback.js maps every non-OK webhook response to 502 Discord rejected the feedback. The client receives a 502 for input that the server could reject as 400.

<title>Discord Webhooks: URL, Embeds, Rate Limits, Errors — Webhooker</title>

<excerpt>citeturn0search1 [wordlim: 200] Published: 3 weeks ago; Crawled: 2 days ago; Sending `&quot;#ED4245&quot;` gives a `400`. `timestamp` must be an ISO 8601 string; Discord shows it in each reader’s local time zone. ... `401` | `50027` | Invalid webhook token provided | The token part of the URL is wrong or truncated ... The timestamp is part of the signed message but Discord does not document a tolerance window, so if you add one, keep it generous; the trade-offs are in webhook replay attacks and timestamp tolerance. ... * Test the failure path on purpose: send an embed with a 300-character title and check that your code logs the `50035` error instead of retrying it.

## How do you send a Discord embed?

Embeds are the coloured cards most bots post. One message can hold up to 10:

    `{
      &quot;username&quot;: &quot;Deploy bot&quot;,
      &quot;embeds&quot;: [
        {
          &quot;title&quot;: &quot;Deploy failed: api v2.14.0&quot;,
          &quot;url&quot;: &quot;https://ci.example.com/runs/4821&quot;,
          &quot;description&quot;: &quot;Migration `0042_add_invoices` timed out after 300 s.&quot;,
          &quot;color&quot;: 15548997,
          &quot;fields&quot;: [
            { &quot;name&quot;: &quot;Environment&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: &quot;production&quot;, &quot;inline&quot;: true },
            { &quot;name&quot;: &quot;Commit&quot;, &quot;value&quot;: &quot;`9f3c2ab`&quot;, &quot;inline&quot;: true }
          ],
          &quot;footer&quot;: { &quot;text&quot;: &quot;CI run 4821&quot; },
          &quot;timestamp&quot;: &quot;2026-09-30T09:14:00.000Z&quot;
        }
      ]
    }`

Two fields trip people up. `color` is a decimal integer, not a hex string: `#ED4245` (Discord’s red) is `15548997`, `#57F287` (green) is `5763719` and `#5865F2` (blurple) is `5793266`. Sending `&quot;#ED4245&quot;` gives a `400`. `timestamp` must be an ISO 8601 string; Discord shows it in each reader’s local time zone.

Discord enforces limits on every part of an embed:

In addition to ensuring your app validates security-related request headers at the time of saving your endpoint, Discord will also perform automated, routine security checks against your endpoint, including purposefully sending you invalid signatures.

Each webhook is sent with the following headers:

  * `X-Signature-Ed25519` as a signature
  * `X-Signature-Timestamp` as a timestamp

Using your favorite security library, you must validate the request each time you receive an event. If the signature fails validation, your app should respond with a `401` error code. Code examples of validating security headers is in the Interactions documentation.

In addition to ensuring your app validates security-related request headers at the time of saving your endpoint, Discord will also perform automated, routine security checks against your endpoint, including purposefully sending you invalid signatures. If you fail the validation, we will remove your Webhook Events URL and alert you via email and System DM.

We recommend checking out our Community Resources and the libraries found there.

#### Adding an Webhook Events Endpoint URL

After you have a public endpoint to use as your app&#39;s Event Webhooks URL, you can add it to your app by going to your app&#39;s settings.

On the Webhooks page, look for the Endpoint URL field. Paste your public URL that is set up to acknowledge `PING` messages and correctly handles security-related signature headers.

After you configure your Webhook Events URL, you can enable and subscribe to events on the same page.

## Responding to Events

When your Webhook Event URL receives a webhook event, your app should respond with a `204` status code with no body within 3 seconds to acknowledge that your app successfully received it. If your app doesn&#39;t respond to the webhook event, Discord will retry sending it several times using exponential backoff for up to 10 minutes.

If your app fails to respond too often, Discord will stop sending you webhook events and notify you via email.

Validate the embed timestamp format before Date.parse.

Date.parse accepts non-ISO strings. The embed timestamp check in functions/_lib/feedback-payload.js only tests the result of Date.parse. A value such as "0" passes local validation. Discord documents the embed timestamp as an ISO8601 string, so the webhook can reject it. functions/api/feedback.js maps every non-ok webhook response to HTTP 502 with "Discord rejected the feedback.". A client that sends an invalid timestamp therefore receives a server-error status instead of a 400 validation error, and the feedback is not delivered.

Validate the embed timestamp’s ISO 8601 format in the timestamp check before

Count declared-length oversize POSTs as strikes before returning 413.

The boundedRequest catch in functions/_middleware.js returns tooLarge() before any strike. Before this change, a POST with a declared Content-Length above MAX_BODY_BYTES reached the strike branch that calls strike(kv, ip). The early return now skips that branch. Repeated oversized POSTs from one IP therefore no longer count toward STRIKES_TO_BAN, so they cannot escalate to a permanent ban through this path. This applies only when SECURITY_KV is bound. Other strike paths still work.

The Content-Length strike branch is now unreachable. boundedRequest throws for any length above the limit before the branch runs. Rebuilt requests also drop the header.

The early return does not change behavior for streamed oversized bodies without Content-Length. Those never produced strikes before this change.

Restore the strike for BodyTooLarge rejections on the path that declares the oversized length. Decide the scope first. A strike in the catch would also count streamed oversized bodies, which is a policy change. It could also overwrite an existing ban reason. Confirm the intended scope before adding the strike.

Read request bodies only after the ban, Origin, exploit, and rate-limit checks.

Since this change, handle() buffers up to MAX_BODY_BYTES (8 MiB) of each request body before it runs any rejection check. boundedRequest runs at functions/_middleware.js:187, and the ban lookup runs at line 205. A banned client, an Origin-mismatched state-changing request, an exploit-pattern URL, or a rate-limited client therefore still has its body read into Worker memory first. This contradicts the file's own design note that middleware "returns before any origin work is done" (functions/_middleware.js:26-27).

Declared bodies over the limit are rejected from Content-Length before any read. The exposure is therefore limited to requests that declare a size at or under the limit, or that declare none. Those bodies are still read in full, with no timeout, before the checks run.

Move the header-only checks ahead of the body read. Keep the body read before every path that forwards to next, so downstream handlers still receive the buffered request.

Ordering to apply

Run the ban check, the static-subresource skip, the exploit check, the Origin check, and the Content-Length check on the original request. Then call boundedRequest immediately before each forward(). The rate-limit check uses only the method and IP, so it can run before the read as well. Keep the BodyTooLarge and Invalid body responses on the read path.

Document the 18,000-byte preview-fixtures allowance in the README.

The README states a flat JavaScript limit of 3,240,000 bytes. build/check-bundle-size.ts enforces that limit only when no preview-fixtures-* asset exists in dist/assets. When such an asset exists, the checker allows 3,258,000 bytes. A production build can pass npm run size with a JavaScript total the README describes as over budget.

Correct the README: the add dialog has no running-app picker and rejects executable names.

The README at lines 79-81 says that Add game or app lets users "choose a running app or enter an executable name/full path." The add flow does not provide either option as written:

  • The running-app picker does not exist in the add flow. GamesPage opens only LocalApplicationDialog from its Add button. GameRequestDialog, which contains the running-app picker, has no importer in src, so it is not mounted.
  • A filename-only entry cannot be saved. The dialog enables Save only when the parsed target has a path, and a bare filename parses to an empty path. Users who follow the README and enter only an executable name get a disabled Save button and an "invalid" hint.

A full executable path still works. Only the two documented alternatives are unavailable.

Either implement the two documented options, or change the README to describe the full-path entry that the dialog supports. The README also says that a filename matches any executable with that name (README lines 84-88). Remove or correct that statement together with the first sentence, because the add flow cannot create a filename-only entry.

Show the connection detail as visible text in the device status line.

In DeviceHero, status.connectionDetail now appears only in the title attribute of the connection-type span. The visible text was removed. Pointer users can read it on hover. Touch and keyboard users cannot reliably read it, so they see only the connection type.

This PR removed the visible detail. At the merge base, DeviceHero rendered it as visible text in the status line. DeviceStats never showed it visibly, so the removed presentation came from DeviceHero, not DeviceStats.

The repository rules say not to remove a string as a side effect of a UI change. If the removal is intentional, the PR must state it.

Assert the reduced-motion media rule in the sweep test.

The test named OS reduced motion can override the sweep without a component rerender does not check the rule it names. It reads shell.css, matches the sweep selector, and asserts only that the selector has one class. It does not check that the @media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce) rule exists or that it sets animation: none. If that media rule is deleted, the test still passes. Add assertions that check both:

🧪 Suggested test assertions
   assert.ok(specificity <= 1, "the later media rule must win the cascade");
+  const media = css.indexOf("@media (prefers-reduced-motion: reduce)");
+  assert.ok(media > css.indexOf("animation: om-ascii-sweep"), "the media rule follows the sweep rule");
+  assert.match(css.slice(media), /\.om-ascii-row\s*\{\s*animation:\s*none;?\s*\}/, "the media rule disables the sweep");

The runtime effect of removing the rule is small. The sweep is a one-shot animation of at most 520 ms. AsciiField.tsx also omits the sweep class when reduced motion is set at render. The defect is in regression coverage, not in user-facing behavior.

Update the test “OS reduced motion can override the sweep without a component
rerender” to verify the reduced-motion rule in `shell.css`: assert that `@media
(prefers-reduced-motion: reduce)` appears after the sweep animation rule and
that it sets `.om-ascii-row` to `animation: none`. Keep the existing
selector-specificity assertion.

Widen the 2-column setup-figure breakpoint, or stop figure values from overflowing their columns.

At a 760–900px page width, the rail appears and the setup figures use four columns. The workspace column is narrow, so a value such as 32,000 DPI overflows its column and can crowd the next figure. The base stylesheet used a 2-column layout for this band. This change removed that rule.

The .om-device-page container is 760px wide here, so the (max-width: 560px) query does not match. Each figure then has about 89px of text width for its non-first columns. A 30px value with five digits, a comma, and a 4px-offset DPI unit needs roughly 100px or more, so it overflows. Nothing in the figure markup allows the value to wrap. Choose one of these fixes:

  • Raise the two-column container threshold so that a 760px container keeps two columns. The threshold must cover the band where the rail is visible.
  • Keep four columns and let the figure value wrap or shrink within its column.

Verify the chosen value at 760px, 900px, and 1000px container widths.

Update the `.om-setup-figures` container query so setup figures do not overflow
at 760–900px container widths: either raise the two-column breakpoint to cover
that band or keep four columns while allowing figure values to wrap or shrink

verify the result at 760px, 900px, and 1000px.

Pin the font test to the manifest SHA-256.

The test named DM Sans is self-hosted with its licence and pinned to the native instance checks only font.length against 240_164. It does not compare the file's SHA-256 with the sha256 value recorded for DMSans-Variable.ttf in public/fonts/DM-Sans-source.json. A file with the same length and different bytes passes this test. Compute the digest of font and assert it equals the manifest entry:

Re-check the active profile after an in-flight write settles.

The hook drops a same-device Bridge event that arrives while a profile write is unresolved. It does not re-check the Bridge state after the write settles. The tests do not cover this sequence, so they pass on the current code.

If the user closes a game while its profile write is still running, the mouse can keep the game's settings. The hook does not restore the original settings until a later Bridge event reaches it. Nothing in the inspected code guarantees that event.

Add a test for this case. Call notify() once and leave calls[0] unresolved. Call notify(false), then resolve calls[0] as "written". Assert that a second flashGameProfileSnapshot call restores dpi to 800. The current code leaves calls.length at 1, so this test fails.

Fix the hook so that, once a write settles, it re-evaluates the latest Bridge state. Another option is to keep the latest pending event and replay it after the write completes.

an in-flight profile write settles, replaying any state change received while

resolving it as `written` triggers a second `flashGameProfileSnapshot` call

Keep the Bridge transport label on the device header, or state its removal in the PR.

The device header no longer shows that a device is on the OpenMouse Bridge transport. The PR description is empty, so the removal is not stated. Brand is not shown in the header at head, but it still renders in the sidebar at head.

Reload the saved profile when the target mouse changes without a user selection.

The owner-change block at GameProfilePanel.tsx:108-111 clears lastDraft only. savedRef keeps the previous mouse's stored profile. When a different mouse takes the same targetIndex while the panel stays open, the draft opens on that old profile. The first edit then saves those values to the new mouse's profile.

Trigger sequence, with the panel open on mouse A at index 0:

  1. A disconnects and mouse B connects at index 0 and is selected. target becomes B (line 170), and editing becomes true.
  2. draftOwner changes. The draft effect at lines 177-184 reruns and calls beginGameProfileDraft(lastDraft.current ?? savedRef.current) (line 180). lastDraft is null, so A's saved settings are used.
  3. adoptDraft is set (line 181) and savedKey is set to A's key (lines 190-193). No save runs yet.
  4. The user edits any field on B. The autosave at lines 269-284 calls persist with current, which contains A's values. persist writes it to devices[targetIndex], which is B (lines 200-227).

Result: B's stored profile for this game contains A's settings. Bridge applies them when the game starts. The editor also shows A's values on B.

Correction: when the target device identity changes without a user Select, reload savedRef, savedKey and autoApply for deviceId(target) before the draft effect opens. Use the same source as selectTarget (lines 294-299). Do not change the same-identity case. Reopening a same-identity mouse on its saved profile is intended.

Require .exe for Windows drive-letter targets in the dialog.

The valid check does not require a .exe suffix on Windows drive-letter paths. A target such as C:/Tools/readme.txt or C:/Tools/editor passes validation and is saved. The interface copy says the accepted target is a Windows .exe, so the form accepts a target that the interface says is unsupported. Bridge matches the file name with its extension, so the saved target can fail to match a running Windows process. The profile then never activates, and the user receives no validation message. If Bridge rejects the record instead, the user receives only the generic localApps.failed message after submission.

Add the .exe requirement for drive-letter paths in the valid expression. The existing localApps.invalid message already covers this case.

-  const valid = Boolean(parsed?.path && !/\.(?:desktop|appimage|sh|bash|zsh|fish|py|pl|rb|js|bat|cmd|ps1|lnk)$/i.test(parsed.executable) && name.trim() && [...name.trim()].length <= 80 && !/[\x00-\x1f\x7f]/.test(name));
+  const valid = Boolean(parsed?.path && !/\.(?:desktop|appimage|sh|bash|zsh|fish|py|pl|rb|js|bat|cmd|ps1|lnk)$/i.test(parsed.executable) && (!/^[a-z]:[\\/]/i.test(parsed.path) || /\.exe$/i.test(parsed.executable)) && name.trim() && [...name.trim()].length <= 80 && !/[\x00-\x1f\x7f]/.test(name));

Check src/features/games/local-application-dialog.test.ts after this change. Add a case that rejects C:/Tools/readme.txt and C:/Tools/editor. The Bridge-side matching code is in a separate repository and is not verified here.

Update the `valid` expression in the dialog so drive-letter paths require
`parsed.executable` to end in `.exe`, while preserving the existing validation
for other targets. Use the existing `localApps.invalid` message for rejected
targets; do not change Bridge matching behavior.

Qualify the games.settingsHint restore promise for full device settings.

The English hint says previous settings return when the profile stops. That is only true for native DPI and polling settings when the browser is closed. Full device-settings snapshots are restored by the control panel, so they return only while the control panel stays open. The hint shows for every game profile and does not state this limit. A user who closes the tab before the game stops can keep the profile's full-settings values after the game exits.

The base string already made the same unqualified promise ("gets them back when it closes"). This PR keeps that promise in new wording and adds the documented limit to the README only.

Suggested fix

In src/i18n/index.ts:

- "games.settingsHint": "Saved only to the profile for {name}. These settings apply when the profile is active, and your previous settings return when it stops.",
+ "games.settingsHint": "Saved only to the profile for {name}. These settings apply while the profile is active. Your previous settings return when it stops. Full device settings return only while this control panel is open.",

Update the exact-match assertion in src/features/games/local-applications.test.ts:

-  assert.equal(t("en", "games.settingsHint"), "Saved only to the profile for {name}. These settings apply when the profile is active, and your previous settings return when it stops.");
+  assert.equal(t("en", "games.settingsHint"), "Saved only to the profile for {name}. These settings apply while the profile is active. Your previous settings return when it stops. Full device settings return only while this control panel is open.");

The translated hints in the other locale files make the same unqualified promise. Apply the same clarification to them.

Review comment at @src/i18n/index.ts at line 101:
Update the games.settingsHint translation key across locales to clarify that
full device settings are restored only while the control panel remains open,
while preserving the existing profile-specific behavior. Update any exact-match
assertion for this hint to reflect the clarified wording.

Closing in favour of #1245, which carries this commit unchanged (with your authorship), rebased on current main, plus a running-app picker, app icons and the #1177 game-profile features ported onto this design. Thanks for the work here.
