ci: validate Vermeer Helm runtime and record published image digests - #40
Vermeer Helm deployments require a packaged token helper, file credentials and authenticated native login from a known source revision. Validate that image before publication and record the exact source and immutable image digest.
Merge dependency: keep this PR in draft until the Vermeer changes in hugegraph/hugegraph-computer#20 are present in the default Apache source (apache/hugegraph-computer@master). Recommended order: Vermeer source → this publisher → Helm hugegraph/hugegraph#346. The scheduled wrapper must never merge before its source smoke script exists.
Visual overview
Source-provided host commands run on a separate runner from publication credentials. Only the resolved SHA and successful job status connect the two jobs.

Components with no required smoke entry explicitly skip Runner A. Failed, cancelled or unexpectedly skipped required smoke blocks Runner B. A build-only run writes no registry image or cache. Publication consumes no smoke workspace or image artifact.
A 45-minute job timeout bounds the dedicated smoke runner, with a regression keeping that guard present.
A dedicated runner builds and executes source-provided smoke with read-only repository permission, no publishing credentials, no registry cache writes, and no workspace or artifact transferred to publication.
A fresh publishing runner checks out and verifies the same prepare-resolved SHA. It requires successful smoke, permits an explicitly absent smoke matrix, and blocks failed/cancelled/unexpectedly skipped validation.
The shared publisher records source SHA, platforms and registry digest in an artifact and immutable reference in the run summary. Build-only runs clearly report no publication. Latest/release semantics and hash markers remain intact.
Validation: 12 publication regressions plus the smoke-job timeout check exercise real preparation/report scripts, mixed and absent smoke matrices, source SHA verification, cache selection and publication/cancellation gates. Existing preparation regressions, actionlint v1.7.7 and independent security review pass. Exact-head PR CI: https://github.com/hugegraph/actions/actions/runs/40645552788. The real isolated workflow passed with publish=false (prepare, credential-free smoke and fresh build jobs all successful; no images/caches published): https://github.com/hugegraph/actions/actions/runs/40641597094.
The final official fixed-source publication succeeded with this workflow revision: https://github.com/hugegraph/actions/actions/runs/40653109759. Official image hugegraph/vermeer:helm-30b67d93e7d0 is pinned by Helm to multi-platform digest sha256:f9b69ef134069b432de1c9964374d7fdbfa53245d1fe7dcbce1e75b82b69dc9e. Registry manifest and downloaded provenance independently match source 30b67d93e7d097374341cf46ee6a0703421512b1 and amd64/arm64. Its amd64 image passed actual Kubernetes Master/Worker registration, six-character native login, helper 0600 output, CSV load and PageRank oracle, and browser login checks. ARM64 runtime was not tested. Only the explicit custom tag was published; the default latest tag/hash marker was not updated. The source must still land in Apache master before merging this scheduled wrapper.
Enabling the Vermeer smoke test before the upstream script lands would break scheduled and default latest-image publication. The smoke script also runs after the registry login step, so a compromised source ref could reach the publishing credentials. Merge only after the upstream script is available on the default ref, and consider isolating the smoke test from the credentials.

The process-level blocking issue is fixed: this PR is back in Draft, matching its documented source dependency.
The paired computer source has moved from 2678ff9 to ceaba5e; therefore the existing successful publication and digest remain valid evidence only for the older source and must not be reused for the final Helm pin. Keep this PR Draft until the new computer exact-head org/ASF CI is green and the source is ready for publication.
The remaining non-blocking review item is still open: add an explicit timeout-minutes bound to the credential-free source smoke job as a final runner-level guard. Current score remains 8.4 / 10 until that is addressed and the new fixed-source publish path succeeds.
Added a 45-minute job-level timeout to the credential-free source smoke runner, bounding both the source image build and the source-provided smoke command.
Added and wired a structural regression that verifies the timeout remains present.
Exact-head Image publisher checks completed successfully at b26b1fb.
Post-fix score: 8.7 / 10. No implementation blocker from this review remains. Keep the PR Draft only because of its intentional merge dependency: the fixed Vermeer source must first land/become publishable, then this publisher must produce a new image from ceaba5e (or the eventual merged source SHA), and only then may Helm update its immutable digest.
