fix(swap-service): resolve every swap stage within a deadline - #77
Swap status, verification and attribution could each stay PENDING indefinitely: a verifier or chain lookup that kept failing, a swap that never reported a transaction, or a USD price that failed once were never resolved, and some were polled forever. A partner swap stuck this way is never paid and never shown in the payout report. This makes every stage reach a final state, records why when it was a deadline rather than evidence, and surfaces those swaps for manual review.
Resolution windows
New nullable swaps.settledAt column, set when a swap reaches SUCCESS or FAILED; the migration backfills it from createdAt for swaps already settled and indexes (status, settledAt).
Verification and attribution close out 7 days after settlement, verification FAILED and attribution REJECTED, marked resolvedBy: 'deadline' in their details with the last reason kept. Claims with no quote time or no transaction follow the same deadline.
Deposit swaps get 72h to be funded (the longest provider window, NEAR Intents' deposit address lifetime) plus the usual 24h to settle; other swaps keep 24h.
A failed swap that never had a transaction resolves verification and attribution immediately (no-tx), and a non-deposit swap that never reports a transaction is abandoned after 24h.
Prices
A USD price that failed at registration is retried hourly for a week after settlement, priced from CoinGecko history nearest the swap's own timestamp (via the existing ShapeShift proxy). The Relay verifier prices its fee the same way.
Missing prices on existing rows were backfilled in prod ahead of this (22 empty fields filled, none changed); no script ships with this PR.
Polling
Tx status polling backs off with age (5s for the first 10 minutes, then 30s, 2 min, and 10 min after a day) and returns to live polling when a swap reports a status change or a new hash. Each tick reads only swap ids and times, and full rows for swaps that are due.
Each attribution pass takes the newest pending claims plus those past their deadline, so a backlog can't hold up either.
Payout report
Reads every partner swap in the month, not only successful ones, and adds a section listing swaps resolved by deadline (abandoned swaps whose transaction was not ruled out, verification timeouts, unresolved attribution), grouped by stage, swapper, chain and reason.
Lists each unpriceable swap individually instead of only counting them.
Refuses to run while any partner swap in the month is unsettled, unless --allow-unsettled is passed. The earliest safe run day is derived from the deadline constants (currently day 13).
Out of scope, tracked separately: fees collected in an asset that is neither the sell nor the buy asset (e.g. Relay fees in USDC on Base) still can't be valued and appear in the report as "no verified on-chain fee".
Testing
yarn lint, yarn build (7/7) and yarn test pass; affiliate payout tests and test:security pass
New unit tests cover the deadlines anchored on settlement, the no-tx and no-quote-time paths, the deposit window, the poll backoff and its reset, guarded price writes, the attribution batch, and the report's grouping and unsettled guard
Migration applies on Postgres 17 with no schema drift
Local docker compose: all services start; on the first cron passes verification and attribution closed every pending row (no-tx and expired claims) with no errors
Payout report run read-only against production for September and October lists the expected deadline-resolved and unsettled swaps
After deploy, confirm the first passes close the stale pending rows: 4 verifications as timeouts, 4 unfunded deposit swaps via no-tx
Generate the next payout on or after day 13 and review the deadline-resolved section

Improvements
Swap status checks now adjust their frequency based on how long a swap has been pending.
Pending swaps that have not been broadcast are abandoned after the applicable waiting period. Verification and attribution resolve when their deadlines pass.
Missing historical prices are retried, helping complete eligible swap and affiliate-fee values.
Affiliate payout reports flag unsettled, deadline-resolved, and unpriceable swaps. Generating payouts with unsettled swaps requires an explicit option.
A price that failed to load at registration was never fetched again, so the
swap's fee could not be valued and the partner was not paid for it. Missing
prices are now retried for a week, each priced at the moment the swap was
registered rather than whenever the retry runs. A backfill script fills older
rows the same way, dry run by default.

A verifier or chain lookup that kept failing left a settled swap pending and
polled forever. Both now close out a week after registration, verification as
FAILED and attribution as REJECTED, recording why. A failed swap that never
had a transaction is resolved too, instead of staying pending unpolled.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
… review
The report only read successful swaps, so a partner swap the stall rule
abandoned was never shown, and a verification or attribution that timed out
looked like any other exclusion. Both now get their own section, grouped by
stage, swapper, chain and reason, and the script refuses to run while a
partner swap in the month is still unsettled unless --allow-unsettled is set.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…e backfill
A swap whose fee could not be valued was only counted, so there was no way to
find it once the price retry stopped. The report now names each one for review.
Missing prices are left to the retry poller, so the one-off backfill script
goes.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A swap that never reported a transaction, or a claim with no quote time, could
still stay pending forever and block the payout run, and a backlog of pending
claims kept the oldest from ever reaching their deadline. Unbroadcast swaps are
now abandoned after 24h, quote-less claims expire with the rest, and each
attribution pass takes the oldest pending claims alongside the newest.
The price retry writes only fields still empty, never pairs a fee price with
a fee asset that changed meanwhile, and caches historical lookups so a price
that keeps failing is retried hourly at most. The payout review now also lists
abandoned swaps with no transaction, whose deposit may have gone undetected.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…en the deposit window
Verification and attribution deadlines counted from registration, which only
worked because every swap settled within a day. A swap now records settledAt
when it reaches SUCCESS or FAILED, and the deadlines count a week from there;
rows settled before this fall back to registration.
That frees the deposit window from the downstream deadlines, so deposit swaps
now get 72h to be funded, matching the longest provider window, plus the usual
24h to settle.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Every pending swap was polled every 5 seconds for its whole life, which a 72h
deposit window would turn into tens of thousands of swapper and chain calls
for a single unfunded quote. Swaps are still polled live for their first ten
minutes, then every 30 seconds to the hour, every 2 minutes to the day, and
every 10 minutes after.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Restart the poll backoff when a swap shows progress, so a deposit funded
days in is polled live again, and load full rows only for swaps due
- Route abandoned unbroadcast swaps through updateSwapStatus so users are
notified, and push them over the websocket
- Only give a claim with no quote time a batch slot once its deadline is due,
and skip its chain lookup
- Retry missing prices hourly with no cache, bounded by registration time and
backed by a (status, createdAt) index
- Derive the payout run day from the deadline constants, and share the
settled-status rule with the payout script
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…ibution batch
- Count only a status change or a newly reported hash as progress, so a funded
deposit returns to live polling while a message that changes every poll
doesn't hold a swap at the fastest rate
- Record a poll only for swaps actually loaded, re-checking they are pending
- Abandon unbroadcast swaps in one guarded write, capped per run and guarded
against overlapping runs, with no push for a swap that never happened
- Pair the newest pending claims with those past their deadline, so a backlog
can't strand a claim beyond it

Walkthrough
The swap service now tracks settlement times, schedules pending-swap checks by age and progress, resolves overdue attribution and verification results, and recovers missing historical prices. Affiliate payout records include unpriceable and deadline-resolved swaps, and generation checks for unsettled swaps.
The swap model adds nullable settledAt and an index on status and settlement time. Constants and helpers define polling intervals, stall timeouts, and resolution deadlines.
Due polling and unbroadcast swaps apps/swap-service/src/polling/*, apps/swap-service/src/swaps/swaps.service.ts, apps/swap-service/src/polling/__tests__/*, apps/swap-service/src/swaps/__tests__/check-swap-status.test.ts
Polling selects due swaps by reference and ID, tracks meaningful progress, and runs guarded abandonment and missing-price jobs. The service marks eligible unbroadcast swaps as failed.
Attribution and verification deadlines apps/swap-service/src/swaps/swaps.service.ts, apps/swap-service/src/swaps/__tests__/resolution-deadlines.test.ts
Attribution and verification queries include overdue records. Pending results can be rejected or failed after the resolution deadline.
Historical price lookup tries a one-hour window before a one-day window. Swap processing fills missing price fields, and Relay verification uses a price at swap creation time for other affiliate-fee assets.
Payout records include per-swap unpriceable details and deadline-resolved swaps. Generation reports unsettled stages and requires --allow-unsettled when any remain.

Explanation
The title "fix(swap-service): resolve every swap stage within a deadline" matches the main change. The PR adds deadlines for swap status, verification, attribution, and price resolution, with a new settledAt field and deadline-based abandonment and resolution logic in the swap-service. The title is specific and follows a conventional-commit style. It omits the payout report and status polling backoff, but those are secondary to the main objective.

- Backfill settledAt for already-settled swaps in its migration, so the
createdAt fallback no longer has to be repeated in every query and check
- Apply the resolution deadline once per stage (isPastResolutionDeadline);
resolveAttributionFromChain reports only what the chain says again
- Mark deadline outcomes with a structured resolvedBy field in the existing
JSON details instead of reason-string prefixes, and treat a checked
rejection as ruled out by the chain
- Load pending tx swaps in one query, return abandoned swaps from the write
itself, and derive the stall label and time units from shared constants
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
…load only due tx swaps
- A settled swap with no sell hash past the deadline is rejected as no-tx,
so it can't hold a past-deadline attribution slot forever
- Deadline rejections always record checked: false
- The attribution backlog warning checks each query against its own batch size
- The tx status poll picks due swaps from swapId/createdAt refs before loading full rows
- The payout script reads resolution details defensively
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
A confirmed externally paid swap without a deposit hash bypasses the stall timeout.
This early return does not call resolveStalledSwap. The other paths in checkSwapStatus call it, and so does the error path at Line 697.
Take an externally paid swap that the provider reports as Confirmed while findDepositOnChain finds no hash. Each poll returns PENDING with "waiting for deposit hash". The swap never reaches the 96h stall timeout, so it never gets settledAt. No deadline can resolve it.
Polling continues at the 10-minute ceiling with no end. The payout script also treats the swap as unsettled and refuses to run unless --allow-unsettled is passed. This conflicts with the PR goal that every stage resolves within a deadline.
Route this return through resolveStalledSwap, so the swap is abandoned after the stall timeout.

…and bound price retries by settlement
- A swap the provider confirms but whose deposit hash is never found now
falls under the stall timeout instead of polling forever
- Missing-price retries are bounded by settledAt alone, indexed on
(status, settledAt), so a swap that settles late is still retried
- The payout report groups deadline outcomes by reason

Re the outside-diff comment on checkSwapStatus (confirmed by the provider, no deposit hash): fixed in c3ca19c. That path now goes through resolveStalledSwap, so it's abandoned after the deposit window instead of polling forever, and the payout report lists it for manual review. Covered by a new test.
