Summary

Ports upstream steipete#4440 (3a45dc7) to the Settings provider sidebar.

  • Search by CLI alias: ProviderId::cli_aliases() is generated from the from_cli_name arms and sent to the UI as ProviderCatalogEntry.cliAliases. Search matches display name, id, or any alias. Every word must match, ignoring case and accents. For example, openai finds Codex.
  • Show enabled only: a new providers_enabled_only setting (default off, local only, excluded from the portable preferences export). Reorder is disabled while the filter is on.
  • Restore default order: restores the built-in order for listed providers and turns off alphabetical sorting.
  • Undo: one level of undo for reorder and restore, from the options menu or Ctrl+Z outside text fields. It goes stale if the order changes another way.
  • The options menu is a chevron beside the sort toggle. New reorder_visible_providers / restore_default_provider_order commands use merge_visible_provider_order, so providers hidden by soft-removal keep their slots. The tray flyout's reorder_providers is unchanged.
  • Locale strings were added in all 10 locales.

Differences from upstream: Undo is an in-app menu item and Ctrl+Z, not a native Edit-menu command.

Commands run

  • cargo fmt --all -- --check: clean
  • cargo clippy -D warnings on both manifests: clean
  • cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml: 733 passed
  • cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml: 4730 passed. Two account tests failed under full-suite load with a Windows file-replace lock error (0x80070497) and passed alone. The failing set changed between runs.
  • pnpm test: 135 files, 1283 tests passed; pnpm run build: ok (locale check included)

UI proof

Result: pass.

  • Branch feat/provider-list-filter-undo at 92d950d
  • Binary: C:\Users\FSOS\AppData\Local\Win-CodexBar\cargo-target\repo-bb654619ec0c47e2\worktree-08c6a7686b314504\debug\codexbar-desktop-tauri.exe
  • Proof mode settings:general; CDP port 9372
  • Method: fresh pnpm run tauri:build:debug; launched with CODEXBAR_PROOF_MODE and WEBVIEW2_ADDITIONAL_BROWSER_ARGUMENTS=--remote-debugging-port. CDP drives the Settings page target (trusted Input.dispatchMouseEvent; native <select> set through the React value setter + change) and reads persisted values with get_settings_snapshot. cua-driver 0.34.0 gives verify_state, real-pixel get_window_state screenshots and DWM facts. Background only: windows parked on the secondary monitor, no foreground or keyboard use. Settings were backed up and byte-restored afterwards.

CDP assertions (all passed; W:/mac-parity/proof/896/steps.jsonl):

  • Sidebar search openai matches by alias: Codex, Azure OpenAI, OpenAI API.
  • The options menu has 3 items.
  • Show enabled only: persists; the list shrinks from 107 rows to 48; rows are not draggable while filtered; the menu item shows a check mark. Turning it off restores the full list.
  • Move up, then Undo from the menu, restores the previous order.
  • Restore default on a custom order, then Undo, restores the custom order. The custom order was cleaned up afterwards.
  • Ctrl+Z (CDP dispatchKeyEvent, webview-local) undoes the last order change.
  • The final providerOrder and enabled set are identical to the starting values.

CUA: verify_state, DWM dark under auto; screenshots 01-sidebar-initial.png … 13-after-ctrl-z.png in W:/mac-parity/proof/896/.

Observations (not failures):

  • Restore default on an order that is already the default is a no-op, and Undo stays disabled.
  • providerOrder contains crossmodel, but no sidebar row renders for it (107 rows). This predates the PR.

Not covered: drag-and-drop reordering with a real mouse (intentionally not attempted, because it would move the OS cursor).

Personal info visible: none (provider names only).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Filter the provider sidebar to show only enabled providers.
    • Search providers by name, ID, or CLI alias; searches ignore capitalization and accents.
    • Restore the default provider order or undo a reorder with Ctrl+Z or the options menu.
    • Reorder visible providers while keeping hidden providers in their existing positions. Reordering is unavailable while searching or filtering.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Failed reorder or restore actions preserve the existing provider list and sorting state.

📝 Walkthrough

The Settings sidebar adds CLI-alias search, an enabled-provider filter, and controls to reorder visible providers, restore their default order, and undo an order change. Reordering preserves the stored positions of hidden providers.

Changes: Provider Sidebar Options

Layer / File(s) Summary
Provider aliases and search
rust/src/core/provider.rs, apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/bridge.rs, apps/desktop-tauri/src/types/bridge.ts, apps/desktop-tauri/src/surfaces/settings/settingsTabs.ts, related tests
Provider catalog entries now include CLI aliases. Search matches each query word against provider names, IDs, and aliases without case or diacritic sensitivity.
Enabled-only preference and filtering
rust/src/settings*, apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/{bridge.rs,settings.rs}, apps/desktop-tauri/src/types/bridge.ts, apps/desktop-tauri/src/surfaces/settings/settingsTabs.ts, related tests, rust/src/locale/*
The enabled-only setting defaults to off, persists locally, and passes through the settings bridge. Reordering is disabled while enabled-only filtering is active. Localized option labels are added.
Visible-provider order commands
rust/src/settings.rs, apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/provider_settings.rs, apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/main.rs, apps/desktop-tauri/src/lib/tauri.ts, related tests
The order merge changes visible providers’ slots while retaining unlisted providers in place. Tauri commands save a visible order or restore the listed providers’ built-in order.
Sidebar options, undo, and localization
apps/desktop-tauri/src/surfaces/settings/SettingsSidebar.tsx, apps/desktop-tauri/src/surfaces/settings/providers/ProvidersSidebar.tsx, apps/desktop-tauri/src/surfaces/settings/settings-layout.css, apps/desktop-tauri/src/surfaces/Settings.test.tsx, apps/desktop-tauri/src/i18n/keys.ts, CHANGELOG.md
The sidebar adds enabled-only, restore-order, and undo controls. Undo is available from the options menu or Ctrl/Cmd+Z when applicable. Menu behavior, styling, tests, localization keys, and the changelog are updated.

Full details: Provider Data Stays Siloed

Explanation

The standing failure remains present. The PR adds ProviderId::cli_aliases in shared rust/src/core/provider.rs at lines 748-880. Its match self has provider-specific arms for the full ProviderId set, such as Codex =&gt; ["openai"] and Claude =&gt; ["anthropic"]. This is cross-provider branching outside the permitted rust/src/providers/&lt;name&gt;/ and rust/src/core/provider_factory.rs locations. apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/src/commands/bridge.rs then sends these aliases to the Settings UI through ProviderCatalogEntry at lines 944-949 and 1281-1297.

Resolution

Move provider-specific alias definitions out of rust/src/core/provider.rs. Store them in the relevant rust/src/providers/&lt;name&gt;/ modules or resolve them through rust/src/core/provider_factory.rs, and expose only a generic shared interface. Update the bridge and tests to use that interface without a shared match on specific ProviderId values.

Addressed in the latest push:

  • Restore failure path: if restoreDefaultProviderOrder() rejects, alphabetical sorting is turned back on. A test covers the failure case.
  • Changelog: the entry now says both a drag reorder and a restore can be undone with Ctrl+Z or the options menu.

On the "Provider Data Stays Siloed" pre-merge check: ProviderId::cli_aliases is static metadata on the ProviderId enum, next to cli_name, display_name and from_cli_name. The repository guidelines name these metadata methods as the place for per-provider identifiers. The aliases are the same strings from_cli_name already resolves, and a test checks that each one resolves back to its own provider. They are used only for search matching in the Settings sidebar. No identity, plan or email from one provider is shown in another provider's UI, so the siloing rule is not affected.
