WireSend is an offline, cross-platform file transfer application built in Rust and Tauri. It enables instant file sharing between Windows, Linux, and macOS without an internet connection — an AirDrop-like experience for the desktop.
- Offline-first — no internet, no server, no cloud. Direct peer-to-peer transfers.
- Cross-platform — works on Windows, Linux, and macOS.
- Automatic discovery — finds nearby devices over mDNS (and BLE in the future).
- Encrypted transfers — secure by default with key exchange and session encryption.
- Fast — streams files over direct connections at hardware-limited speeds.
- Modular — transport-agnostic design. TCP now, QUIC and more later.
Key design decisions:
- Discovery is separate from transport — finding devices and moving data are independent concerns.
- Transport trait — the protocol layer works over any transport that implements
send/receive. - Event-driven — modules communicate through an event bus instead of calling each other directly.
- Encryption is mandatory — all transfers are encrypted by default.
Foundation layer is in progress — event bus, error handling, logging, graceful shutdown, and persistence (config + history) are built. Protocol and transfer modules are being actively developed.
- Rust (edition 2024, latest stable)
- Tauri system dependencies for your platform
