Led the end-to-end backend redesign of a US-only ads system into a multi-market platform — domain-aware REST APIs, feature-flagged rollout, and asynchronous pipelines on RabbitMQ with durable DB-backed queues and an idempotent retry framework for inter-service failure.

Eliminated budget-depleted listings at the retrieval layer so the auction only ever considers listings that can actually pay.

📈  Active auction participants 28 → 1,150 per hour (41×) · ~5% lift in impressions, CTR and CPC · 11% lift across the ads business

Built a Java 21 / Quarkus service from the ground up — JAX-RS API contracts, CDI service layer, Hibernate Validator, JWT-secured endpoints, OpenAPI spec, structured JSON logging — fronting a Qdrant vector store for embedding-based ad retrieval.

🧪  Shipped on Kubernetes behind a 129-test JUnit 5 + Mockito suite with JaCoCo coverage gates in CI, load tests, and Datadog dashboards sized for peak traffic

Extracted high-signal query features — category, brand, color — using Lucene-based and semantic search techniques.

📈  7.4% more search ad clicks · 8.3% better campaign performance

Designed province-aware sales tax calculation and billing: estimation and recording APIs, Avalara integration, schema design, retry logic, and Datadog/Slack alerting.

Tuned an OpenSearch cluster with bulk/scroll indexing and refresh-interval changes.
