Summary

发布逻辑移入 scripts/publish_feed.py。

Evidence

  • After: .venv/bin/python -m unittest discover -s tests -v:12

Merge Danger

Door: two-way

Blast Radius: workflow

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements
    • Feed updates now publish from the latest main branch and refreshed source content, preserving concurrent changes. Publishing retries up to three times when the branch advances during an update.
    • Unchanged feeds no longer create a commit, and unrelated publishing failures are reported without retrying.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the feed publishing guidance to describe the refresh and retry process.

Rebasing generated releases.atom from stale workflow reruns conflicts with newer feed commits. Refresh main and source checkouts before regenerating, retry only when main advances, and preserve ordinary push failures.

Walkthrough

The CI workflow now builds feeds for pull requests and non-main refs, and delegates main-branch publication to a Python script. The script refreshes the repository and configured sources, regenerates releases.atom, and retries when main advances. Integration tests cover unchanged feeds, concurrent updates, and push failures.

Resolve consistency between the refreshed checkout, its tests, dependencies, and source checkouts before merging. Older runs can otherwise fail publication or publish output before its generator is tested. Policy failures can also cause unnecessary retries.

Add a test for a remote feed.json that adds a source without checking it out.

scripts/publish_feed.py resets to origin/main and reads feed.json from that tree. It then runs git -C .sources/<directory> fetch origin main for each configured source. The test fixture sets one source in setUp, and write_feed renders every feed from that config. No test writes a remote feed.json with a different source list, so the stale-run case where origin/main lists a source that the run did not check out is not exercised.

Add a test that:

  • Writes a feed.json to origin/main that lists an extra source, with no matching directory in .sources/.
  • Runs publish() and asserts the handling the project chooses for that case.

Keep the extra source in the remote feed.json. Do not remove it from the fixture to avoid the missing checkout. The code does not yet define the intended handling, so choose it before writing the assertion.

Install requirements after the publish reset.

The publish step resets the checkout to origin/main and then runs generate_feed.py. The workflow installs requirements.txt before that reset. If main adds a generator import and its requirement after the install, generation fails with ImportError and this run pushes nothing. The fix is to install requirements after the reset, before generation.

Publish only generator output that the run tested.

The test step runs on the triggering checkout (.github/workflows/update-feed.yml:48-49). scripts/publish_feed.py then resets to origin/main (:25) and regenerates releases.atom from that tree (:32). A commit that changes the generator and lands on main after the test step, but before the reset, publishes its generator output before its own tests run. The generator checks only well-formedness (scripts/generate_feed.py:191-192), so a well-formed but incorrect feed can go live. It stays live until a later run publishes again.

Do not run the unit tests inside scripts/publish_feed.py. The publisher tests run that script in a clone that has no tests/ directory (tests/test_publish_feed.py:74-75), so a nested test run would fail.

Suggested remedy: pass the tested commit (${{ github.sha }}) to the publish step. Before each generation, including each retry after a push race, compare the generator inputs (scripts/ and feed.json) between that commit and origin/main. If they differ, stop without pushing. The workflow run for the changed commit then publishes after its own tests. This changes the regenerate-on-latest-base behavior only when generator inputs change, so a maintainer should confirm it.

Retry only when a push loses a race.

The loop retries after any rejected push when origin/main has moved. It does not check why the push failed. Line 26 sets base on each attempt, so the check on line 45 compares origin/main against the current attempt's base. A persistent policy rejection therefore adds one attempt for each consecutive main advance, up to three attempts in total:

  • If main advances once during attempt 1, attempt 2 is rejected with no further advance. The job exits with git's push status (line 47) after two attempts.
  • If main advances during every attempt, all three attempts run. The job then exits with "Could not publish after 3 attempts: main kept advancing." That message names the wrong cause, because the rejection came from policy.

run() does not capture output (line 11), so git's rejection text stays in the job log.

Distinguish a race rejection from a policy rejection before retrying. The README documents retries for concurrent commits only. Add a test that combines a policy rejection with a main advance. The current test covers only the no-advance policy case.
