Keep log read failures inside MainLogFile.
readLastBytes catches only openSync failures. A fstatSync, readSync, or closeSync failure escapes readTail. exportDiagnosticFile calls readTail before its write-error handler, so Save Diagnostics can reject instead of writing the bundle with logFileError.

Electron 41 app.setAppLogsPath default path macOS userData singleInstanceLock documentation
💡 Result:
For **Electron 41.0.0**, the versioned docs say:
- **Default logs path on macOS:** `app.setAppLogsPath()` without an argument sets it to `~/Library/Logs/YourAppName`—not to `userData`. `app.getPath('logs')` also creates that default if you haven’t set a logs path first. ([github.com](https://github.com/electron/electron/blob/v41.0.0/docs/api/app.md))
- **`userData` is separate:** Electron documents its default as the app’s name appended to `appData` (on macOS, `~/Library/Application Support`). ([github.com](https://github.com/electron/electron/blob/v41.0.0/docs/api/app.md))
- **Single-instance lock on macOS:** Finder launches are already handled by macOS, but command-line launches bypass that mechanism. Use `app.requestSingleInstanceLock()` if you need to enforce one instance for those launches; it returns `false` when another instance holds the lock. ([github.com](https://github.com/electron/electron/blob/v41.0.0/docs/api/app.md))
These details are from the **v41.0.0 documentation**; behavior for a different Electron 41 patch version isn’t established here.

Tie custom macOS logs to the single-instance lock.
app.requestSingleInstanceLock() is scoped to userData, but app.setAppLogsPath() without an argument uses the shared ~/Library/Logs/<AppName> path on macOS. Two instances with different userData paths can therefore write to the same main.log.
MainLogFile closes and renames the current file during rotation. A second instance can keep writing through its existing descriptor, and a later rotation can replace the other instance's main.old.log.

Thanks, this is a real improvement over the in-memory buffer, and the flood guard is well thought out.
- Please rebase on main:
electron/cli/cliMain.tsconflicts with 095955b (import ofisDiagnosticModeEnabled). - On main the buffer is installed at the very top of
main.ts, before anything logs (ef38e13). Here it is installed afterrequestSingleInstanceLock(), so lines logged while the module loads (error guards, dev HTTP cache, Linux switches) no longer reach the file. Could you take the lock earlier and install right after it? - Minor: the checklist says
~/.config/Openscreen/logson Linux; the rc.3 Linux pass in the same file uses~/.config/openscreen. Please check the case on a real install.
Take the single-instance lock right after parsing the CLI args so the log file catches the lines logged while main.ts loads. Give an instance on a custom userData its own logs folder on macOS. Report a failed tail read as logFileError instead of failing Save Diagnostics, and use the lowercase Linux config folder in the checklist.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Log undefined, functions and symbols as text.
JSON.stringify returns undefined, not a string, for undefined, functions and symbols. Array.prototype.join turns undefined into an empty string. A call such as console.log("value:", undefined) is therefore written as value: , and console.log(undefined) is written as an empty line. The diagnostic bundle loses the value, and the console shows something different from the file.
Fall back to String(arg) when JSON.stringify returns undefined.

Save Diagnostics now writes a .zip holding diagnostic.json and main.log (plus main.old.log once it has rotated), instead of only the JSON with a 256 KiB tail. The zip is written with node:zlib, so no new dependency.

Changed the diagnostic logic to just zip the whole log file + environment json |
This pull request replaces the in-memory main-process log buffer with a new file-based logging system, improving reliability and diagnostics, especially after crashes. The new
MainLogFileclass writes console output to disk, handles log rotation, and includes robust flood and error handling. The changes update all references and tests to use the new implementation.Migration from in-memory to file-based logging:
MainLogFileinmain-log-file.ts, which writes all main-process console output tomain.logon disk, rotates logs when exceeding a size limit, and ensures logs persist across crashes. It includes flood control (repeat/suppression summaries, line length limits, and rate limiting) and robust error handling so logging never breaks the app.main-log-fileinstead ofmain-log-buffer, including imports incliMain.tsandhandlers.ts.
