Summary

Printing or saving ctr26.github.io as a PDF from the browser ran to 5 pages at Minima's screen size. This PR makes the printed page a compact A4 CV, tightens the prose into shorter CV bullets, adds emphasis, leans the PhD entry into the code, and absorbs the still-useful parts of #10 and #7.

Print stylesheet (assets/main.scss)

  • New assets/main.scss overrides the theme's, imports minima and appends the print rules, so they ship in /assets/main.css, the only stylesheet the Minima layout links. (assets/css/style.scss compiles to a file no page loads, which is why the first commit put the rules there and nothing changed; it is back to how it was.)
  • @page A4 with 10mm/13mm margins; body at 9pt, line-height 1.27
  • The site header becomes the name plus the job title; the nav menu, hamburger and footer are hidden in print
  • Section headings become small uppercase rules; lists and paragraphs tightened; list items don't split across pages
  • Screen rendering is untouched (everything sits under @media print)
  • Result: 2 A4 pages (target was three at most)

Prose (index.md)

  • Summary, Experience, and Education go through a less prosaic pass; long bullets split into two sentences, connective clauses cut, semicolons where two facts share a bullet
  • A code review and an adversarial CV review followed; fact drift from the pass was reverted ("jointly with", "Work on", "micrometre-scale"), flOPT is described once, and emphasis came off weak spans (co-author, patent pending, adjectives)
  • Every fact, number, and emphasised term is kept; no colons or em dashes

Emphasis (index.md)

  • Bold on the key methods, artifacts and numbers: agents over biological databases, post-training, reinforcement learning, diffusion transformers, active learning, 6 PhD students, 100+ models, £50k, €5M AI4LIFE, 40+ researchers

PhD entry (index.md)

  • Names the software rather than the instrument alone: automated acquisition, bead tracking for homographic alignment of the optics, and flOPT, the tomographic reconstruction that recovers the sample pose from tracked fiducial beads and stays robust to mechanical jitter and drift (Scientific Reports 2021, open-source Python with OpenCV, per the paper's abstract and code-availability note)

Ported from other PRs

Testing

  • Downloaded the preview-build artifact, printed index.html with headless Chromium: 2 A4 pages on the real Jekyll output
  • make pdf (pandoc + cv-print.css): 2 pages, NPL entry whole on page 2

Printing or saving the site as PDF from the browser gave 5 pages at
the Minima screen size. A print stylesheet in style.scss now sets A4
at 9pt, drops the nav menu and footer, keeps the name and job title
as the heading, and tightens headings and lists, so the page prints
on two A4 sides with room for growth under three.

The CV text gets more emphasis: bold on the key methods, artifacts
and numbers (agents over biological databases, diffusion
transformers, 6 PhD students, 100+ models, £50k, €5M, 40+ researchers),
italic on the caveats and author positions.

The Minima layout links only /assets/main.css, so rules added to
assets/css/style.scss compile to a file no page loads. The print
rules move to an assets/main.scss that overrides the theme's and
imports minima first, so they ship in the stylesheet the page uses.
style.scss goes back to how it was.

The PhD entry now names the software rather than the instrument alone:
automated acquisition, bead tracking that aligned the holographic
optics, and flOPT, the tomographic reconstruction that recovers the
sample pose from tracked fiducial beads and stays robust to mechanical
jitter and drift (Scientific Reports, open-source Python with OpenCV).
The matching publication line gains the same description.

The tightening pass had drifted three facts; restored "jointly with"
for RNA-seq and imaging, "Work on" for the screening evaluation, and
"micrometre-scale" for the PhD tomography. flOPT's robustness is now
stated once, in Education, and the publication line is neutral.

Emphasis comes off the weak or filler spans; co-author and patent
pending go plain, as do adjective italics and the Summary's noun
list. HGNC joins the Skills databases, the grant dates use the same
spaced dash as the rest, and the stale cv.pdf rule leaves the print
CSS.

cv-print.css keeps a role heading on the same page as its bullets, so
make pdf no longer splits the National Physical Laboratory entry across
the break. _config.yml gains url, author, and a real description, so
jekyll-seo-tag emits a meta description and canonical link.
