Summary

bstack can now be installed in Cursor as a local plugin, next to the existing Claude Code plugin. Version 0.51.2 (patch: additive install path, Claude hooks and the CLI default behavior stay as they are).

  • .cursor-plugin/plugin.json names the plugin bstack and points skills and rules at cursor-plugin/. Skills are portable Agent Skills (broomva-workspace, kg, bookkeeping, dogfood, cross-review, autonomous, setup-bstack). Host-specific link syntax is gone. Mac checkout notes (BROOMVA_ROOT, git --no-optional-locks) stay. broomva-workspace keeps its name so it stays the workspace startup route, distinct from setup-bstack.
  • "hooks" points at cursor-plugin/hooks.json ({ "hooks": {} }). That replaces Cursor's discovery of hooks/hooks.json, which remains the Claude Code map (${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}). Those hooks are not reformatted.
  • cursor-plugin/rules/bstack-hard-gates.mdc ships with alwaysApply: false. /setup-bstack writes ~/.cursor/rules/bstack.mdc with alwaysApply: true (no force-push to main or master, no git reset --hard, human-only merges stay human). It does not set model budgets.
  • Install matrix for Cursor, Claude Code, and the skills CLI (Codex included) is in docs/cursor-plugin.md and the README. Marketplace publish is out of scope. Companion skills with scripts stay npx skills add broomva/skills --skill <name>.
  • .claude-plugin/plugin.json and marketplace.json move to 0.51.2 with VERSION. bstack release tag now requires the Cursor manifest to match VERSION as well (BRO-3200).

Test plan

  • bash tests/cursor-plugin.test.sh (manifest shape, empty Cursor hooks file, Claude hooks/hooks.json still has SessionStart / ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}, frontmatter clean, portable wording, relative links)
  • bash tests/upgrade-trap-cleanup.test.sh (Claude and Cursor manifests match VERSION)
  • python3 scripts/validate-skill-frontmatter.py cursor-plugin/skills (0 errors, 0 warnings)
  • shellcheck --severity=warning --exclude=SC1091,SC2155,SC2034 bin/bstack
  • bash scripts/doctor.sh --quiet (exits 0; the gaps are the usual missing companion-skill installs in a bare checkout)

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added an opt-in Cursor plugin with portable skills and hard-gate reminders.
    • Added setup instructions for installing the plugin and enabling its user-level rule.
  • Documentation
    • Added guidance for Cursor, Claude Code, and Skills CLI installation paths.
  • Updates
    • Updated the release version to 0.51.2.

…0.51.2)

Cursor installs from .cursor-plugin/plugin.json. Skills live under
cursor-plugin/ so the skills CLI keeps using broomva/skills, and the
manifest points hooks at an empty Cursor hooks file so hooks/hooks.json
stays the Claude Code map.

Patch bump: additive install path, no change to default Claude or CLI behavior.

Walkthrough

The release adds an opt-in Cursor plugin with skills and an installable hard-gate rule. It documents the Cursor, Claude Code, and Skills CLI install paths, updates the release version to 0.51.2, and checks the Cursor manifest during release version validation.

Use the bookkeeping skill's documented script path.

The kg skill uses a different path from the bookkeeping skill. When the documented BK layout is installed, the refresh command can fail because bookkeeping.py is not at the path used by kg.

# Setup bstack

Write `~/.cursor/rules/bstack.mdc`, an always-applied reminder of the hard gates. This skill does not choose models or reasoning budgets.

Use a rule location Cursor loads for projects outside the home directory.

When a user opens the documented /Volumes/Broomva/ checkout, Cursor can miss ~/.cursor/rules/bstack.mdc. The file then exists with alwaysApply: true, but /setup-bstack does not make the hard-gate reminder active. Cursor identifies this as a limitation of home-directory MDC discovery. Use a supported project or plugin rule location, or direct users to Cursor User Rules for a global rule. (forum.cursor.com)
