Summary

Restructure engine layers, platform ownership, and backend integrations to provide clear extension points for new platforms, backends, and deployment models.

Changes

  • Enforce boundaries between Foundation, Content, Services, Runtime, and composition.
  • Separate Rendering Core, Assets, Authoring, and Runtime.
  • Centralize shared backends under backends/ and platform implementations under platforms/.
  • Isolate platform-specific backend adaptation in dedicated integration libraries.
  • Separate shared Editor/Player lifecycles from platform entry points.
  • Introduce path-independent content access with integrity validation, safe concurrency, cancellation, and atomic publication.
  • Separate content compilation from platform packaging.
  • Centralize distribution registration, binding generation, Native builds, and MSBuild Task preparation.
  • Retire rendering surfaces before destroying additional viewport windows.
  • Update consumers, Solution organization, architecture checks, Wiki documentation, and README.
  • Remove superseded implementations and entry points.

Validation

  • 708 related regression tests passed.
  • Architecture checks and the evaluated MSBuild dependency graph passed for all 229 projects.
  • No orphaned projects, empty Solution folders, or unowned source files.
  • Windows Editor Debug/Release builds, hidden execution, and shutdown passed.
  • FlappyBird publishing and execution passed for:
    • Windows CoreCLR
    • Windows NativeAOT
    • Web interpreted
    • Web AOT
  • Canvas, Rendering2D, Plugin, and scripting consumer validation passed.
  • Player deployment closures exclude Editor, Authoring, dynamic loaders, and build tools.

Remaining Validation

  • macOS products and Linux Native tooling require validation on their respective hosts.
  • Some GUI interactions, multiple-monitor DPI, live resize, and physical audio remain unverified.
  • The Native phase became faster, but total warm-build time did not improve. Measurements are documented.

Documentation and Compatibility

  • Simplify README onboarding, startup instructions, platform status, and extension navigation.
  • Document architecture, ownership, lifecycles, and acceptance evidence under docs/architecture/.
  • This change updates public APIs and project paths. Consumers must use the corresponding current source; no compatibility wrappers are retained.
