Google Tasks (optional)

To use Google Tasks, first create a Google Desktop app OAuth client and enable the Google Tasks API, then run:

python3 contents/scripts/google_tasks.py setup \
  --client-secrets "$HOME/Downloads/client_secret_YOUR_CLIENT_ID.json"

The script signs you in, lets you choose a task list, and installs a local helper as a per-user service. It requires Python 3.9+ and uses no third-party Python packages.

Open Configure Widget → Google Tasks, paste the helper access key printed by setup, and enable Use Google Tasks. The selected list refreshes every minute, and task changes sync to Google. Turning the option off brings back your local tasks.

See the full Google Tasks guide for Google Cloud setup, manual startup, sync behavior, and removal instructions.

Usage

  1. Add a Task: Click the + button to create a new task
  2. Complete a Task: Click on a task to mark it as completed
  3. Edit a Task: Right-click on a task to edit or delete it
  4. Clear Completed Tasks: Right-click on the widget to clear all completed tasks
  5. Hide the Widget: Enable Show hide widget button in the settings first. An eye button then appears next to +. Click it to make the widget invisible; hover over its area to bring it back temporarily, then click the eye again to keep it visible
