## Installation

DevSpace requires Node `>=22.19 <27`.

Install the DevSpace CLI:
macOS, Linux, and WSL:

```bash
npm install -g @waishnav/devspace
curl -fsSL https://devspace.run/install | sh
```

Then initialize DevSpace:
Windows (DevSpace also needs Git Bash):

```bash
devspace init
```powershell
powershell -c "irm https://devspace.run/install.ps1 | iex"
```
Or run it without a global install:
The installer uses a compatible Node (`>=22.19 <27`) on your `PATH` or
downloads Node 24 LTS for DevSpace alone, installs without `sudo`, and starts
`devspace init`. Rerun it to update.
```bash
npx @waishnav/devspace init
```
If you manage Node yourself, `npm install -g @waishnav/devspace` followed by
`devspace init` also works.
During setup, DevSpace asks for:
DevSpace 1.1 uses Node's built-in SQLite, so this only affects 1.0.x
installs, whose native SQLite module was built for a different Node runtime.
The simplest fix is to upgrade with the installer above. To stay on 1.0.x,
reinstall with the Node you run DevSpace with, then rerun `doctor`:
- global install: `npm install -g @waishnav/devspace`
- global install: `npm install -g @waishnav/devspace@1.0.8`
- npx: remove only DevSpace's cached copy, then rerun the `npx` command.
With npm 11.2 or newer, find its key in `npm cache npx ls` and run
`npm cache npx rm <key>`. With older npm, switch to a global install.
Document that the published curl pipeline hides fetch failures.
The Unix install command is curl -fsSL https://devspace.run/install | sh. This command is now the default on the landing page and in the README and quickstart. The pipeline has no pipefail and no separate check of curl's status. When the fetch fails, curl writes no script content, sh reads empty input and exits 0, and the pipeline reports success. curl still prints its error text on stderr, so the failure is visible. The false success affects only callers that read the exit status, such as chained commands (&&) or scripts.
No safe one-line change is established. A POSIX sh pipeline cannot rely on pipefail, and sh -c "$(curl ...)" loses the status in the same way. If exit status matters, use a two-step form in the published commands: curl -fsSL https://devspace.run/install -o devspace-install.sh && sh devspace-install.sh. This changes the command in content.ts, README.md, and the quickstart, so the team should decide on it.
Add a brief note alongside the Unix install entry identified by id "unix"
explaining that a failed fetch prints an error but the pipeline may still exit
successfully, affecting callers that check its status. Do not change the install
command.
Keeping the one-liner: it is the same pattern OpenCode and Pi publish, and the script cannot act on a partial download because everything is in functions and only the last lines call them, so an empty or truncated fetch runs nothing. curl's -f error still prints on stderr.
@Waishnav Understood. Keeping the one-liner is an accepted trade-off for the interactive install flow. My concern was only that the pipeline can return success after a fetch failure, not that the failure produces no visible error. The function layout does not change that exit-status behavior.
I will not press for a command change or an added note.
