Plant this seed on a computer and it grows a Story: the histories of Named beings who act in space, on matter. Each act is a fact stamped in its moment, and the stamps in order are Time. The Story is federated and cryptographically signed. It also opens a higher Library, where Names share Books of Histories and Search, in Word, across every Story you are peered with.
The whole system is Word. A being speaks, the speaking is an act, the act stamps a fact, and the facts fold into the world. Rust is only the floor, the few places where meaning touches metal: hashing, signing, disk, the fold, the crypto, the network. Everything above that floor is Word, and the seam is kept honest on disk, a .word sitting beside the .rust that grounds it. The north star is that nothing carrying meaning is buried in code. It is Word a being can read, speak, and change.
Compared to WWW and HTTP:
The Seed (IBP/Factory) would be the HTTP Server.
Surface would be a browser.
WORD is HTML/Javacript/DB combined.
You need rustup. The engine (seed) and the glass (surface) are two separate builds.
git clone https://github.com/Tabors-Site/Tree.git && cd Tree
cargo build --release --manifest-path seed/Cargo.toml
cargo build --release --manifest-path surface/Cargo.tomlThat gives you treeos at seed/target/release/treeos, and wordportal at surface/target/release/wordportal.
Birth a story, then serve it. Run the engine from seed, and your worlds land in store beside it:
cd seed
./target/release/treeos genesis
./target/release/treeos serveGenesis plants the world and mints your key. Bare genesis names the story story, so it lands at store/story/story.tree with its key at store/story/I.key. Serve opens two doors: IBP on :6923, and a loopback bridge on 127.0.0.1:6924.
Give it any other name to keep worlds side by side, each in its own folder under its own key:
./target/release/treeos genesis test # store/test/test.tree
./target/release/treeos serve testThe name plants as a naming fact on the chain, and a name geneses once: genesis refuses a name that already stands.
Now open the glass, from the repo root:
./surface/target/release/wordportalAt the keyhole: set the story's endpoint, and give the vault an I — on the story's own machine, paste your I's 24 paper words (shown once at genesis); on any other machine, mint a fresh I of your own. Then mint a Name under it and speak the one sentence in the composer: I am <yourname>. The story births your Name, the welcome law funds it, and your own signature binds you into a body waiting in the garden. That key is you — keep its paper somewhere safe, and it carries into a glass on any machine.
The glass builds for Windows from Linux. Add the target once, with rustup target add x86_64-pc-windows-gnu and your system's mingw-w64:
cargo build --release --target x86_64-pc-windows-gnu --manifest-path surface/Cargo.tomlThat gives you wordportal.exe at surface/target/x86_64-pc-windows-gnu/release/. A ready-made copy of the same build ships as seed/dist/surface-windows/surface.exe (one file, plus its runbook — same artifact, wearing the product's name). Copy either to the Windows machine and double-click. It reaches your story over the network, so the engine keeps running on the machine that holds the key.
The engine itself is Linux and macOS for now. Its spine reads frames by offset and takes a single writer lock through calls Windows spells differently.
