A return to sleep after an hour-long awakening could be detected but omitted from the main night. Pin the shared continuation fix from OpenStrap/analytics#96 and bump kAlgoVersion to 115 so retained nights can be recalculated. Grouped main sleep also respects the existing 16-hour span cap.

An upgrade could preserve the same continuation as a legacy nap. Exclude legacy snapshots only when fully contained in the corrected main window. Partial overlaps retain their recorded duration because the snapshot lacks stage-level data to split it accurately; this conservative policy can retain overlapping credit. Stored records remain intact, and manual/confirmed naps stay authoritative. “Put it back” records an explicit confirmation while preserving duration and confidence.

The six synthetic WHOOP reference files change only algorithm-version metadata; reference metrics and payload hashes are unchanged.

Validation:

  • Full analytics suite: 789 passed, 6 skipped; analyzer clean.
  • Edge analyzer and 74 focused composition, persistence, restoration, and version/pin checks pass.
  • Exact detected 90-minute and +1-second boundaries are tested. Changing <= to < makes the equality test fail. Two-/three-fragment span-cap and partial-nap regressions failed before their fixes and now pass.
  • Fresh independent code review found no blockers. Added fixtures are synthetic; privacy checks found no personal recordings, incident dates, device identifiers, credentials, or private-fork additions in the proposed changes.
  • Full UTC serial suite: 6,093 passed, 23 skipped, zero failures. Asia/Kolkata and America/New_York timezone runs each pass all 12 checks. GitHub Actions still require upstream maintainer approval.

Dependency: analytics is pinned to reviewed commit 302332bbe74d82b9bd10d08f93f8a058a3108123 in the public fork. After analytics#96 merges, restore the upstream URL and repin YAML, lockfile, and kAnalyticsPin to its upstream merge SHA before releasing.

Reviewer's Guide

This PR adopts the shared analytics continuation fix, increments the algorithm version for recalculation, and updates nap composition so legacy snapshots overlapping a corrected main sleep are excluded from totals without being deleted. Explicit manual and restored confirmations remain authoritative, with persistence and fixture metadata updated and targeted regressions added.

**Partial naps lose credited sleep**

When a legacy nap snapshot extends beyond a corrected main window while overlapping it, the filter removes the entire legacy snapshot whenever it intersects the main window, so sleep outside that window is omitted from both nap and sleep-period totals.

Only suppress snapshots fully represented by the main window, or otherwise account for the portion outside it.
</issue_to_address>

Sourcery assessment

Needs a human reviewer. 1 finding to address first, and if the main sleep window is wrong, a legacy nap that overlaps it can be omitted from the displayed nap and sleep totals, leaving incorrect derived values saved for that day. The nap edit itself is retained, so correcting the window or recomposing the day can restore the value.

💡 Result:

**PR #96 in `OpenStrap/analytics`** is titled “fix: retain interrupted main sleep across accepted continuation gaps.” DropTabl’s change aligns final sleep-session grouping with the detector’s **inclusive 90-minute** continuation limit, fixing cases where a detected return to sleep after a 60–90-minute break was dropped from the main sleep period. The gap remains classified as wake or unobserved—it isn’t counted as sleep. (GitHub pull request 96 in OpenStrap/analytics (link omitted to avoid creating a cross-reference))

Repin the analytics dependency before release.

DropTabl/analytics is a public user fork, and analytics PR #96 is still open. The current exact SHA is suitable for this merge, but release from this fork would bypass the upstream repository’s merge and retention controls. After PR #96 merges, replace the URL and ref with the upstream merge commit and set kAnalyticsPin to the same SHA.

This is not a merge-time build blocker. The lockfile and version pin already agree.

Kept an exact reviewed fork pin while analytics#96 remains open, now updated to 302332bbe74d82b9bd10d08f93f8a058a3108123 so it includes the grouped-span cap fix. YAML, lockfile, and kAnalyticsPin agree and the version/pin checks pass. Added the upstream URL/merge-SHA repin requirement next to the dependency and retained it in the PR description. This remains a before-release follow-up after analytics#96 merges; no release is being made from this branch.

@DropTabl Understood. The reviewed fork pin remains acceptable for this PR. The upstream repin remains a before-release follow-up, not a merge blocker.
