Louis-Finegan/README.md

Hi, I’m Louis 👋

I’m a First Class Honours Master’s graduate in Mathematical Physics from Maynooth University, with a First Class Honours BSc in Mathematical Sciences from Technological University Dublin.

I’m interested in using mathematics and programming to understand physical systems and analyse data. My projects cover scientific computing, statistical modelling, machine learning and numerical simulations.

🔭 What I’m working on

  • Machine learning projects involving data preparation, feature engineering and regression models.
  • Numerical solutions of differential equations, with an interest in diffusion and fluid dynamics.
  • Computational simulations and visualisations to accompany my mathematics and physics writing.

🧪 Selected projects

Project Description
NYC Airbnb Price Prediction Predicting nightly listing prices using scikit-learn, feature engineering, random forests and gradient boosting.
Modelling Multisensory Behaviour Comparing statistical models of audiovisual integration with neural network predictions.
Convection–Diffusion Models Applying finite-difference methods to diffusion and transport equations, with animated solutions.
Orbital Manoeuvres Simulating orbital transfers in C and visualising trajectories using Python.

🎓 Academic background

My Master’s research investigated the generation of cosmological initial conditions for models containing primordial black holes, using modified input power spectra with GenetIC.

For my undergraduate dissertation, I studied audiovisual multisensory integration using statistical models and artificial neural networks.

At TU Dublin, I received the John M. Forde Medal in Mathematical Sciences and a Student Academic Excellence Award. I have also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Maynooth University, leading calculus tutorials and supporting students in the Mathematics Support Centre.
