[bug] App stutters and crashes when loading existing presets #68

Open

Description

@wjc100200

What happened?

On Windows 11, the software crashes when dealing with existing presets. Specifically, it stutters severely when opening a preset, then recovers to a smooth state, but crashes when attempting to run the preset.

Crucial detail: This bug is highly unlikely to trigger right after a PC reboot. It usually occurs after the software has been running for a while or after multiple launches. During the stuttering phase, the presets that are already running are NOT affected.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the software with no presets running -> Works fine.
  2. Open an existing preset. The software stutters/freezes for a while, then recovers.
  3. After recovery, try to run the existing preset again -> The software crashes.
  4. Alternatively: After startup, directly run a preset without opening it first -> The software stutters, and after a while, it has a high probability of crashing.

System Environment:

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro for Workstations 24H2 (OS Build 26100.6584)
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 155H
  • RAM: 32.0 GB

Expected behavior

The software should load and switch existing presets smoothly without any severe stuttering or crashing.

Thanks for the report. First, just to make sure we're talking about the same thing: by "preset" do you mean an effect preset (the one you pick inside a node like EQ or Compressor), or a whole pipeline from the main screen?

Either way, please tell me what's in it, since this may only happen with certain effects. Which effects or nodes does it use? Any plugins (VST3/CLAP)? Which audio devices: Bluetooth, USB or virtual cables? Does it use App Audio capture? A screenshot of the graph helps a lot.

When you start Splitwave again after the crash, does it show a crash report window? If it does, click the copy button and paste what it gives you here. Also, what does the crash look like: does the window just close, turn white, or hang with "Not responding"?
