Overdrive
An AI-powered field intelligence and optimization engine that investigates complex systems, identifies problems and inefficiencies, and develops actionable solutions.
WHAT IT IS
Overdrive is a research and engineering platform for building intelligent systems that investigate complex environments and help determine how those systems can be understood, improved, and optimized.
It serves two roles:
- An engineering repository — software, algorithms, experiments, tools.
- A research platform — where new methods for intelligence, reasoning, and optimization are developed and evaluated.
The repository is the implementation. The experiments are the research. The results become evidence.
CORE IDEA
Observe → Investigate → Understand → Reason → Optimize → Act → Evaluate → Improve
CORE QUESTIONS
- What is happening?
- Why is it happening?
- What can be improved?
- What should happen next?
INTELLIGENCE PIPELINE
Complex System ↓ Observe ↓ Analyze ↓ Detect Problems ↓ Investigate ↓ Reason ↓ Plan ↓ Optimize ↓ Develop Solution ↓ Act ↓ Evaluate ↓ Learn ↓ Improve ↺
Not every problem requires every stage. Overdrive uses the right combination of algorithms, models, agents, and methods for each problem.
CAPABILITIES
Field Intelligence Observe complex systems. Transform raw observations into useful representations.
System Investigation Identify relationships, generate hypotheses, search for causes.
Problem Detection Inefficiencies, anomalies, bottlenecks, failures, risks, resource waste, performance degradation.
Reasoning Combine AI models, algorithms, structured reasoning, data analysis, and experimentation.
Optimization Resources, scheduling, routing, configuration, cost, energy, reliability, multi-objective trade-offs.
Planning Develop possible courses of action based on current state and objectives.
Action Transform recommendations into executable actions or system changes.
Evaluation Measure whether an action actually improves the system.
CONTINUOUS INTELLIGENCE
Overdrive is a feedback loop, not a one-time analysis.
Observe → Understand → Investigate → Reason → Plan → Act → Evaluate → Learn → Improve → repeat
Every evaluation produces new information. That information improves future investigation, reasoning, and planning.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
- Can AI discover inefficiencies in complex systems?
- Can autonomous agents investigate problems effectively?
- Can intelligent systems identify root causes rather than surface symptoms?
- Can AI generate useful optimization strategies?
- Can proposed solutions be evaluated automatically?
- How reliable are AI-generated decisions under changing conditions?
These questions may lead to experiments, benchmarks, and research papers.
EXPERIMENTAL METHOD
Research Question → Hypothesis → Method → Implementation → Experiment → Measurement → Analysis → Conclusion → Improved System
Important experiments should be reproducible. Claims should be backed by measurements.

This tree is a target, not a blueprint. Folders are added only when they contain real code.
DEVELOPMENT PHILOSOPHY
Understand before changing. Study existing code before major modifications.
Build incrementally. One step at a time. No full rewrites.
Measure everything. Tests, benchmarks, experiments. No assumptions.
Keep components reusable. Avoid duplication. Design for reuse.
Control complexity. Introduce complexity only when it solves a real problem.
Research through building. Ideas → implementations → experiments → evidence.
DEVELOPMENT LOOP
Idea → Understand → Design → Implement → Test → Experiment → Measure → Evaluate → Improve → Commit → Next Idea
TECHNOLOGY
Overdrive combines different approaches depending on the problem:
- AI and machine learning
- Large language models
- Autonomous agents
- Classical algorithms and search
- Optimization and graph algorithms
- Statistical methods and simulation
- Data processing and evaluation systems
Not every problem requires an AI model. The right method is chosen per problem.
LONG-TERM DIRECTION
The goal is a general-purpose intelligence and optimization platform for complex systems.
Understand → Investigate → Detect → Explain → Generate Solutions → Optimize → Plan → Execute → Evaluate → Learn → Improve
The system should stay:
- Reliable
- Testable
- Interpretable
- Reproducible
- Measurably better over time
- Under controlled complexity
CURRENT STATUS
Active Development — Planning Phase.
The implementation grows progressively as new capabilities and experiments are developed. The repository reflects what has actually been built, not what is planned.
Current reality: README and LICENSE only. Next milestone: First working core module.
GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Investigate complexity. Understand systems. Find what can be improved. Develop actionable solutions. Learn from the results.
Overdrive
Investigate. Understand. Optimize. Act. Improve.
