Displaying the Movie Grid on the Frontend

You can display your movie database grid on your website using a shortcode or a PHP template function.

Option 1: Using a Shortcode

  1. Create a new GetSimple CE page named Movies.

  2. Add the following shortcode to the page content:

    (% movie_db_grid %)

  3. Save and publish the page.

The movie grid will be displayed on the Movies page.

Option 2: Using a Theme Template

To display the movie grid directly within a theme template, insert the following PHP function where you want the grid to appear:

<?php get_movie_db_grid(); ?>

Enabling Frontend Movie Search

You can add a movie search feature to your website using a shortcode or a PHP template function.

Option 1: Using a Shortcode

Add the following shortcode to the content of the page where you want the search feature to appear:

(% movie_db_search %)

Save and publish the page to make the search feature available on the frontend.

Option 2: Using a Theme Template

To display the search feature directly within a theme template, insert:

<?php get_movie_db_search(); ?>

Configuring URL Rewriting in .htaccess

To support movie URLs in the format /movies/any-slug, add the following rewrite rule to your root .htaccess file:

RewriteRule ^movies/(.*)$ index.php?id=movies&movie=$1 [L,QSA]

Purpose

This rule routes requests under /movies/ to the GetSimple CE page with the ID movies, passing the movie slug through the movie query parameter.

For example:

/movies/inception

is internally routed to:

index.php?id=movies&movie=inception

Important Configuration Notes

  • Ensure that Apache's mod_rewrite module is enabled.
  • Place the rule within the appropriate rewrite configuration, typically after RewriteEngine On.
  • Check your existing .htaccess file for conflicting rewrite rules.
  • Ensure that the movies page exists and that the application correctly handles the movie query parameter.
  • Back up your existing .htaccess file before making changes.
