Windows 12 Preview — KD106 Pre-Alpha: (1H08 Build 085)
Welcome to the latest developer preview build of the 1H08 branch! As we push toward the official 1H08 release at Build 100, this update brings massive structural improvements to the taskbar, a completely overhauled native settings navigation system, and brand-new experimental security and localization features.
New Features & Major Additions
"A" stands for addition.
"E" stands for Enhancement.
"C" stands for Change.
New UI Additions & Enhancements:
A - Experimental Dynamic Public-Use PIN (Hex-Numeral Cipher & key):
Introduced a secure cipher system to keep public (or friends) from sneaking into your Windows 12 app. The OS now generates a daily deterministic 4-character key that changes once per day & encrypts your standard PIN in a hexadecimal [key]-[hex] format (e.g: 2h1k-a1d2). You can natively paste and unlock the OS using this daily cipher without exposing your actual password in public.
A - New Language Switch Setting:
The Language setting allows the user to switch between languages using Google Translate (Third party) to translate words into other languages (Only some languages are added) inside the old "Date & time" (Now "Language & Time") setting.
A - Computer Restart Screen:
There is a new computer restart screen (CRS) if a language is selected and if you click the power icon inside the start menu; it doesn't last too long for it to happen and doesn't include a "looking for updates" text to delay the restart.
A - Search Dropdown:
The taskbar/desktop search bar now natively queries interactive system apps and commands. Clicking a search result instantly executes the command or opens the app.
C- Expandable Start Menu & News Integration:
The Start Menu now features a dynamic right-side expansion. Clicking the Newspaper icon on the bottom action bar smoothly slides out the Windows 12 News widget, fully color-synced with the OS environment.
A - Taskbar App Hover Box:
Now when a user hovers over any app on the taskbar, it will have a box similar to the startmenu icon; a white colored box.
A - Login PIN & PFP Setting:
Now there are settings to change your Login PFP and PIN at any time, where you can browse any file that you want if you wanna change your PFP as many times as you want; and you can change your PIN at any time for as many times as you want!
New UX Additions & Enhancements
E - Windows 12 Icon Enhancements:
The Windows 12 icon inside the taskbar has now been switched from dark-light & with it being switched around, to a new RGB system instead of Brightness, where 1 accent color is now on the bottom and one on top, being shifted 25 RGB units to the red direction in a color wheel (like blue -> cyan like on Windows 11) and like I said, it is now fliped.
C: - Taskbar Styling Change/Fix:
Before, the taskbar width was at a fixed point, so some apps had more room than needed; now, it has a new CSS content width: max-content that sizes the width of the taskbar with the content it has inside of the taskbar.
Stuff:
For once, no one had to wait 2 weeks for an update for 1H08- weird.
And once school starts, I will likely post less at 12:00 - 7:00 PM and more at 3:30 - 7:00 PM.
And if you encounter any bugs (Only one being the language thing, but that is a third-party fault), then report them in the "Issues" thing.
