Learn to build games with Godot, not just copy code.
CodingQuests teaches Godot 4 and GDScript by having you build real game systems. You write the code yourself in the browser, the lesson checks it, and each quest adds one working piece to a real Godot project.
Twelve finished Godot 4 systems, free to download, read and use in your own games. Each one is a small project you can open and run, with a README that explains how it works.
| Project | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Multiplayer Starter | Server-authoritative co-op over ENet: host or join, a ready-up lobby, chat, and movement with client-side prediction and reconciliation. |
| Save System | Save slots where picked-up items stay picked up, opened chests stay open, and a crash mid-save cannot corrupt the file. |
| Inventory System | A slot inventory with stacking, drag and drop, tooltips, item use and save data, with the logic kept apart from the UI. |
| Top-Down Controller | 8-direction movement, mouse aim, a dash with i-frames and an afterimage trail, and a follow camera that can shake. |
| Dialogue and Quest System | Branching dialogue graphs with conditions and effects, quests that track objectives from game events, and a visual dialogue editor. |
| Game Feel Lab | One sword swing split into seven layers (knockback, hitstun, hit-stop, shake, sparks, flash, sound) you switch on and off while it runs. |
| Project | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Hitbox and Hurtbox | Health, hitbox and hurtbox components with one hit per swing, knockback, hit-stop and i-frames, tested on a two-attack sword. |
| Enemy AI | Four enemy types and a three-pattern boss on one shared state machine, with attacks telegraphed so you can read them. |
| State Machine | A node-per-state machine, shown on a slime that idles, roams, chases, telegraphs a leap, staggers and dies. |
| Platformer Controller | Coyote time, jump buffering, variable jump height, double jump, air dash, wall slide and wall jump, with the tuning values in the Inspector. |
| Stats and Leveling | Health and mana pools, attributes, modifiers tagged by source, an XP curve and stat points to spend. |
| Menu System | Main, pause and options menus with saved volume, fullscreen and vsync settings, fade transitions and gamepad support. |
All twelve target Godot 4.7 and were tested on Godot 4.7.2 on Windows. Older 4.x versions are untested, and a few features need 4.5 or later; each README says which.
Licensing. The code in every project is MIT. Art and fonts are not ours and
keep their own licenses: the sprites are Kenney packs and the menu font is Pixel
Operator 8, all CC0. Each repo lists what it includes in THIRD_PARTY_ASSETS.md,
and the Multiplayer Starter, Game Feel Lab and Stats and Leveling projects
include no third-party assets at all.
Every README ends with the CodingQuests quest that builds that system step by step, in your browser, and says how much of it is free.

The other repositories here are companion projects for older CodingQuests YouTube tutorials. They are kept as they were recorded, so check the Godot version before you open one.
