SideCause

SideCause is a hub where people can post community service tasks, offering money or other rewards, and where people looking for work can find them. This phase focused on letting job seekers browse available tasks and filter them by distance, job type, and pay.

Phase I: Analyzing Users, Competitors, and Initial Designs

Executive Summary

Sprint one combined early UX research with the first build of SideCause, a web-based community post board.

  • Research findings:
    • Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace lack job-type filtering, and Craigslist's interface feels dated
    • JustServe filters by type but only targets unpaid volunteer work
    • Personas showed some users want passion projects, and students need distance filters
    • Sketches placed the Filter menu directly on the main page to reduce friction
  • App progress:
    • Landing, Login, Create Account, and Posts pages built as visuals only
    • Buttons and interactions not yet functional; Post page pending merge
    • Filters and search not yet designed or built
  • Sprint planning:
    • Browse-by-filter goal deferred in favor of login and post creation
    • Completed work will be documented as retroactive user stories
  • Caveats: Only two UX team members, so findings come from a small sample
