Support Windows file systems without file keys
On Windows, the default JDK filesystem provider returns null from WindowsFileAttributes.fileKey(), so this condition makes every disk-backed check return UNKNOWN before inspecting any player record. Consequently, offline players with valid history cannot produce JOINED, and no identity can produce NEVER_JOINED; only UUIDs observed joining during the current service generation work. Use a stability check that does not require non-null file keys, with file keys as an optional strengthening when available.

Preserve valid positive evidence across sibling read failures
When an earlier suffix contains a stable valid record, this line sets valid but continues examining every remaining suffix. If a later sibling such as .dat_old exists but cannot be opened due to permissions or a transient I/O failure, that exception reaches the outer catch and changes the result to UNKNOWN, even though one complete record already proved JOINED. Return after validating a record, or isolate later candidate failures so they cannot erase established positive evidence.

Cache recovery scans on keyless filesystems
When the filesystem supplies no file key (notably the Windows provider described in the prior review), this condition rejects every populated cache entry, so each negative presence lookup iterates the entire playerdata directory again—up to one million entries. A burst of admitted checks can therefore perform the same full scan as many as 128 times on the single shared AdvancedCore-Storage executor, delaying unrelated persistence work; retain a safely invalidated keyless index or share one scan across the admitted batch.

Return UNKNOWN when player saves are disabled
When a Spigot/Paper deployment enables players.disable-saving, joined players need not have a .dat file. After a restart they are absent from the generation-local joined set, so a readable directory with no record reaches this branch and reports NEVER_JOINED; consumers following the documented filter will then hide genuine returning players. Capture this platform setting and disable negative evidence while saving is off.

Coalesce full-directory absence scans
When a batch checks missing UUIDs—especially an alias family or up to 128 admitted requests—each call independently enumerates the entire playerdata directory here before it can return NEVER_JOINED. AdvancedCorePlugin submits these reads to the single AdvancedCore-Storage timer, so on a large server the repeated scans serialize ahead of unrelated persistence work. Fresh evidence beyond the earlier keyless-filesystem comment is that the current follow-up deliberately bypasses the cached absence result on every filesystem, making this repeated scan unconditional for negative lookups; coalesce pending identities into one fresh scan or otherwise keep these scans from monopolizing the shared executor.

Include direct queries in canonical recovery scans
When callers use the public BukkitPlayerPresenceLookup.check() directly and a canonical .dat file is created after the point checks, this scan receives an empty candidate set and therefore ignores that canonical entry. On filesystems where the directory timestamp collides or has coarse resolution, the final metadata check still passes and the method can return NEVER_JOINED for a player whose record now exists; pass the queried UUID into the scan just as checkBatch does so canonical records discovered during enumeration invalidate the negative result. This direct path matters because the lookup class, constructor, and check method are public compatibility surfaces.
AGENTS.md reference: AGENTS.md:L31-L31

Add bounded asynchronous JOINED / NEVER_JOINED / UNKNOWN checks for resolved UUIDs and up to eight verified aliases. Checks use the existing worker and retained server history without profile lookups, user creation or persistence changes. Only confirmed absence supports NEVER_JOINED; unreadable, unstable, interrupted or ambiguous history remains UNKNOWN.
Direct lookups now include the queried UUID in recovery enumeration, so canonical records appearing after point checks prevent a false negative even when directory timestamps collide. Both direct query modes and all retained canonical suffixes are covered.
Latest follow-up:
e4b38ac3ea1afa357f1664c8d081ffae2a7380ab. Pending built-in lookups register in order on the shared storage worker, then share one fresh bounded directory scan per cohort. Later requests cannot overtake queued persistence. Custom providers retain individual scheduling. Keyless filesystems, colliding timestamps, records appearing during a scan, cancellation, close and executor rejection preserve conservative results. Player-saving policy remains captured at enable; disabled or unavailable saving prevents negative evidence.Validation for the identical reviewed source tree
