Continue shared storage retirement when the hook fails
When an override of onBeforeStorageShutdown() completes exceptionally, this branch uses the failed hook itself as the entire retirement stage and never invokes closeUserStorageAfterSharedRetirement(). Shutdown then terminates the storage worker and closes the native owner via terminal cleanup without flushing pending shared-cache writes, so a plugin hook failure can cause user-data loss; an already-cancelled future is worse because join() throws CancellationException, which this catch misses, leaving userStorageRetirement at its initial successful stage. Report/aggregate the hook failure, but still start shared-runtime retirement after the hook settles.

Defer retirement until the completing storage admission unwinds
When an asynchronous onBeforeStorageShutdown() stage is completed from inside an admitted shared-storage callback (for example, inside withStorageReadAdmission or an atomic transaction callback), thenCompose runs inline on that callback and immediately calls closeSharedRuntimeAsyncCompletion(). That reaches SharedUserDataRuntime.closeAsync(), whose rejectReentrantTransition() throws because the lifecycle read/write admission is still held; the manager has already marked the runtime retiring, so final flushing never starts and terminal cleanup can close the native owner with accepted writes unflushed. Schedule the retirement continuation after the completing callback has unwound instead of invoking it inline.

Keep native storage alive past a pending hook timeout
On a Bukkit/Paper disable thread, an incomplete onBeforeStorageShutdown() stage takes the non-blocking shutdown path; after the five-second deferred watchdog expires, AdvancedCoreRuntime.finishDeferredCleanup() shuts down the user-storage executor, and afterStorageExecutorShutdown() then closes the native owner because this composed stage is still incomplete. If the hook settles afterward, this continuation attempts shared retirement on the terminated executor, so accepted cache writes cannot be flushed despite the hook contract requiring preparation to settle before native storage retirement. The timeout path needs to retain the native owner until this hook and the ensuing retirement settle, rather than treating executor termination as permission to close it.

Settle queued reload checks when forcing the calendar timer
If requestUpdate() has been admitted but remains queued when the shutdown watchdog fires—for example, because the single calendar worker is occupied—abortActiveTransitions() does not complete noRequestedUpdate, and the subsequent shutdownNow() removes the queued runnable before its finally can call finishRequestedUpdate(). This leaves the stage returned here incomplete forever, so shutdown unnecessarily falls back to terminal storage cleanup and can never observe the eventual hook/retirement result; explicitly cancel and settle the queued request on the forced-shutdown path.

Interrupt the held time worker before awaiting preparation
When a time-change listener is still running and onBeforeStorageShutdown() remains incomplete at the first watchdog, this branch returns after registering a preparation continuation, while shutdownNow(grace.timeTimer()) runs only later from forceRetirement after preparation settles. Because TimeChecker.loadTimer() creates a non-daemon executor, a stuck listener combined with a never-settling preparation hook can keep the server JVM alive indefinitely during disable. Interrupt the held time timer immediately after fencing the transition, while continuing to retain only the daemon storage worker and native provider for preparation.

Preserve loaded storage across deferred unload
When an asynchronous onBeforeStorageShutdown() remains pending, deferred cleanup invokes onUnLoad() before this continuation runs. If that existing subclass calls the public setLoadUserData(false) during unload, this branch treats the already-loaded manager as absent; closeUserStorageAfterSharedRetirement() then returns success without flushing the shared cache or closing its native owner, and the successful completion path shuts down the storage worker without terminal cleanup. Base retirement on the storage owner captured at shutdown admission rather than the mutable load flag.

Apply final mutations for legacy ServerData owners
When a downstream ServerData subclass overrides the established saveData() hook but does not yet override the new mutateFinalData() API, this branch calls saveData() without ever invoking mutation.accept(...). Consequently, the final inventory, timestamp, and permission changes are absent from both the live YAML and the custom publisher, while the failed stage also prevents native ownership from being released for the rest of the JVM. Preserve the legacy mutation-and-save behavior while reporting that durable confirmation is unavailable.

Preserve grace for newly admitted storage retirement
When consumer preparation completes shortly before the 15-second deadline while the single storage worker is occupied, this schedules forceRetirement with only the tiny remaining global budget; finishDeferredStorageTimer() then gets no meaningful grace and calls shutdownNow(), which can discard the final retirement task that deferUserStorageRetirement() just queued. Terminal cleanup subsequently closes the native owner without flushing accepted cache writes. Fresh evidence in this snapshot is the aggregate-deadline scheduling introduced here: preparation completing after the deadline is retained correctly, but completing just before it takes this destructive path. Let the admitted retirement completion own shutdown, or grant that newly queued task an independent bounded drain.

Drain admitted delayed rewards before retiring storage
When earlier executor waits consume the shared shutdown budget, this passes zero (or nearly zero) time to RewardHandler.shutdown(), which immediately interrupts its delayed-reward worker and allows shutdown to continue toward user-storage retirement. An already-running AdvancedCoreUser.checkDelayedTimedRewards() can ignore interruption and continue claiming, checkpointing, or restoring a persisted reward after storage has begun retiring or closed; unlike the previous dedicated ten-second grace, even normally short work can now race and leave a claimed reward uncompleted. Fence and await admitted reward executions as an explicit retirement stage rather than merely interrupting the executor when the aggregate caller budget expires.

Recover a snapshot committed before directory sync failed
When moveAtomically() successfully replaces ServerData.yml but the following forceDirectory() throws, saveDataChecked() reports failure here and the finally discards finalDataSnapshot without reconciling the already-written candidate into live. The shutdown worker then continues with the timestamp and permission publications, which snapshot that stale live YAML and can overwrite the committed inventory data; this can lose pending items or cause a partially delivered reward to be replayed after restart. Recover the committed target or stop subsequent whole-file publications after this ambiguous post-write failure.

Publish retirement admission before queuing it
When asynchronous preparation settles concurrently with the deferred watchdog, execute() can expose the retirement task to the storage worker before this assignment publishes admittedUserStorageRetirement. During that window, forceRetirement observes null, treats the task as unadmitted, and shuts down the worker; a queued final flush can then be discarded or an active one interrupted before accepted cache writes are persisted. Publish or otherwise synchronize the admission before the task becomes visible to the executor.
AGENTS.md reference: AGENTS.md:L53-L53
Useful? React with 👍 / 👎.
Keeps accepted storage and final-file writes owned through shutdown and reload, while bounding the shared shutdown waits with one monotonic 15-second budget. Failed or cancelled preparation remains observable and does not silently acknowledge unfinished persistence.
Changes
ServerDataowners receive final mutations on their existing YAML followed by their establishedsaveData()hook, each once. Mutation/save failures propagate. A void save cannot confirm durable publication, so the returned stage remains explicitly exceptional; native owners still publish checked candidates transactionally. The 15-second bound covers waits owned by this shutdown implementation. Arbitrary third-party synchronous hooks and non-cooperative callbacks are outside that bound; this is not an unconditional whole-server shutdown-time guarantee. A permanently pending hook retains only the daemon persistence owner until JVM exit. Unfinished work is not reported as durably saved. No new required configuration, storage migration or SQL fallback is introduced.

Consumer dependency
MCPerks PR #76 uses the additive shutdown/final-publication contract. Its local exact-artifact build passes, but it remains draft until a compatible remotely published AdvancedCore artifact is available and the consumer is rebuilt against that artifact. A local build does not publish a Maven snapshot. Do not merge automatically.
