Add a download page that detects Windows visitors - #236
willwashburn wants to merge 2 commits into
Conversation
Agent Relay Desktop ships Windows builds now, but the site had no
download page. This adds /download and detects the visitor's platform
from the request (User-Agent plus Sec-CH-UA-* hints) so Windows visitors
get the Windows build in the first response rather than after hydration.
Windows links point at the release zips, since the workflow publishes
AgentRelay-Windows-{x64,arm64}.zip rather than a standalone installer.
Windows users are told to unpack and run agent-relay.exe and warned
about the unsigned-binary SmartScreen prompt.
Also lists macOS and Linux options, adds tarball alternatives for Linux,
links to release checksums, and adds the route to the sitemap, nav, and
footer.

Request architecture hints before relying on them
For Chrome or Edge visitors on Intel Macs, this header will normally be absent: Sec-CH-UA-Arch requires server opt-in through Accept-CH, but neither the Next configuration nor the router requests it. Consequently, the Mac user agent falls through to the Apple-silicon default, making the primary CTA download a binary that cannot run on that computer; Windows Arm visitors similarly receive the x64 build. The tests supplying the header manually do not exercise this browser behavior. Request the architecture hint and use Critical-CH to obtain it on initial navigation, or avoid presenting an inferred architecture as detected. Microsoft’s client-hint documentation describes the required negotiation.

v2026.10.55 publishes AgentRelay-Windows-{x64,arm64}-Setup.exe, the
per-user installer the release notes recommend, so point the primary
Windows download at it. The zips stay as the portable alternative, matched
by the existing tarball treatment on the Linux card.

Make the Smart App Control instruction conditional.
The Windows note renders before any installer action and for every /download response. State what to do only if Smart App Control blocks the installer, and explain that disabling it reduces protection.

Summary
Agent Relay Desktop ships Windows builds now, but the site had no download page, so Windows visitors had nowhere to get the app. This adds
/downloadand detects the visitor's platform on the server so Windows users see the Windows build immediately. What it does
User-Agentplus theSec-CH-UA-Platform/Sec-CH-UA-Archclient hints, in the server component, so the correct CTA is in the first response instead of swapping after hydration.AgentRelay-Windows-{x64,arm64}-Setup.exe, the per-user installer the v2026.10.55 release notes recommend. The portable.zipbuilds for both architectures sit beside it as the alternative./downloadto the sitemap, desktop/mobile nav, and the footer Products column. All links use the
releases/latest/download/asset names fromrelay-desktop's release workflow, so new releases are served without a site deploy.Architecture detection follows the machine, not the browser's emulation: Windows on Arm gets the Arm64 build, x64 Windows gets x64.
