Point the consumers at 51degrees-python instead of the four old repositories #21

Description

@oleksandrlazarenko-pi

What is left

pipeline-python, device-detection-python, location-python and ip-intelligence-python are archived, and their code is in this repository. Other repositories, and some files here, still point at them. Each change below is its own draft PR in the repository named.

Other public repositories

  • documentation: the four apis.ps1 entries, the DoxygenLayout.xml tabs, the tested-versions page and the benchmark image. The API documentation must be built from this repository's folders, as was done for Node and .NET.
  • selenium-api-tests: ExampleApps.cs finds the Python demos in this repository.
  • javascript-templates and derived-properties: consumer-tests.yml runs the Python consumer tests against this repository.
  • common-ci: sync-labels.yml and DASHBOARD.md list this repository instead of the four.
  • tools: the CopyrightUpdater list names this repository.
  • specifications and 51degrees-rust: links to the old repositories.

Some consumers are private repositories; those changes are tracked internally.

This repository

  • Links to github.com/51Degrees/<old>-python in the product readmes and in the examples' header comments (about 35) point to the folder here.
  • The Doxyfiles (*/docs/Doxyfile) and ip-intelligence/ci/run-performance-tests.ps1 use paths such as ../pipeline-python/docs/tagfile from the old side-by-side layout. Change them together with the documentation PR.
  • Links to the documentation site (51degrees.com/<old>-python/..., about 30) stay as long as the documentation keeps those paths. Change them only if the documentation PR moves the paths.

Keep the references that record history: the History table in README.md and scripts/import-origins.ps1.

Done when

  • Each PR above is merged.
  • A code search of the organisation for the four old names finds only the history references above and the archived repositories themselves.

Status on 3 November 2026 at 23:20 UTC, checked against each repository. Each change below is in that repository's rc branch and reaches main through its release pull request.

    Item State
documentation ci/apis.ps1 builds pipeline-python, device-detection-python and location-python from this repository's pipeline/docs, device-detection/docs and location/docs (on main). The DoxygenLayout.xml tabs and the Doxyfile TAGFILES entries name the documentation site's paths, which stay.
selenium-api-tests ExampleApps.cs finds the Python demos here, selenium-api-tests#20, released by #22.
javascript-templates The consumer test checks out 51degrees-python, and the README no longer names pipeline-python. Released by javascript-templates#43.
derived-properties Its consumer tests have a .NET job only, so there is nothing to point here.
    common-ci sync-labels.yml and DASHBOARD.md list 51degrees-python (on main).
tools The CopyrightUpdater lists this repository, released by tools#45.
specifications did-specification/README.md no longer names pipeline-python, released by specifications#70.
51degrees-rust One link remains, fodid-client/README.md line 283. Passed to the person preparing the Rust release.
This repository The links to the old repositories (#25) and the Doxyfile paths (#23) are in rc, released by #24.

The History table in README.md is kept, as this issue says. scripts/import-origins.ps1 still names the IP Intelligence repository it imported from, which is a decision for James because that repository is not public.

On the ask about rc, deleting head branches on merge does remove rc when a release pull request merges, and it has been recreated from main after each release so far. A rule that restricts deleting rc would stop that, and needs an admin.
